It was a gorgeous evening for soccer Friday night when the Lady Cougars hosted region opponent Sandy Creek. Despite a slow start, the Lady Cougars started pouring it on late in the first half and dominated the second half, winning 7-0 over the Lady Patriots.

While Alexander maintained possession for almost all of the first half, they could not get themselves in position for a strong shot on goal. However, continued pressure and patience by the Lady Cougars would finally pay off with seven minutes left in the first. Senior forward Kat Lackey dribbled past the the Patriot back line and crossed over the box, putting a goal into the left side of the net. The half would end 1-0 in favor of the AHS.

In the second half, the Lady Cougars would not be denied at the net. Lackey hit a beautiful cross at 38 minutes to Kendall Seese who headed the ball into the net. Three minutes later Brooke Nail would cross a pass which Haley Worthy headed in the goal.

Alexander continued to build run after run and with 22 minutes left, Worthy found Lackey who dribbled around numerous Patriot defenders to get a clear shot and make the score 4-0.

For the next score, it was if time stood still. Lackey appeared to be in slow motion as she pulled the ball back one way then the other luring the defense into a position where she could turn on her speed and hit a solid shot into the net. It was her third goal of the day and the team’s fifth goal of the game.

The final two scores for Alexander were bombs from long range. Brooke Nail hit a direct kick from 40 yards out over the Lady Patriot keeper's head. Then Maddie Seese would not let her little sister have family scoring honors alone for the night when she hit a rope from 25 yards out. The Lady Cougars travel for two important region games next week. They play Troup on Tuesday and Columbus on Friday.
