BASEBALL: Panthers crush Jackson-Atlanta

Chapel Hill crushed 4-3A region opponent Jackson High School of Atlanta Friday night at home, 18-3. The game, which was supposed to be played at Jackson but they currently have no field, ended by mercy rule in the fourth inning.

The Panthers scored nine runs in the first inning to put the game away early. They added eight in the third and one in the fourth.

Jacob McClure picked up the win for the Panthers, throwing two innings and allowed two runs off of three hits. He struck out two and walked one. Ryan Moffett threw the final two innings. He allowed a run off of two hits. He walked one and struck out six.

Q. Shivers took the loss for Jackson. He allowed nine runs, eight earned, in only one-third of an inning. He walked four batters.

Seven Chapel HIll batters had a hit in the game. Eric Lloyd led the team with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate. He knocked in two runs and scored twice. The Panthers had eight hits total.

Jackson made six errors in the game.

The Panthers will be back to work on Monday when they travel to Central for a region contest. Game starts at 5:55 p.m.
