The West Georgia Technical College baseball team rebounded from an early-week loss at South Georgia College to even the series behind a 7-3 victory in Douglasville on Friday night.

The Golden Knights (12-11, 2-4) got a strong effort from Brad Bartlett on the hill, as the Troup County High School product went the distance, allowing three runs on 12 hits with two walks and four strikeouts.

“Brad Bartlett worked his tail off to get the complete game,” WGTC coach Todd Pratt said. “We needed that in a big way.”

WGTC scored four in the first to take the early lead, with South Georgia (11-15, 1-5) chipping away, getting a run in the fourth and two in the fifth to pull within 4-3.

Bartlett shut South Georgia out the rest of the way and the Golden Knights added three insurance runs in the eighth.

WGTC leadoff hitter Beau Welborn was 3-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI, while Rus Morman was 2-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI.

Hudson Power was 1-for-3 with a 2-run triple in the eighth.

“Power came through for us in the eight with that huge hit to pad the lead a little bit,” Pratt said. “Offensively, we have to take advantage of situations that are given us. We have a couple of big games [today], and we need to continue to pitch and hit well.”

The two squads will square off again today with a doubleheader starting at 1:05 p.m.
