The Bowdon city council Monday night approved a beer and wine license for a new restaurant, due to open Thursday.

The council voted 4-0 to approve the license for Raging Bull Steaks and Wings, owned by Matt McCord. Ward 1 Councilman Ray Garrett was absent.

“We’ve done all the background checks required, and nothing negative came back,” said City Manager Jimmy Meigs. “It looks good.”

The group also voted 4-0 to approve the reappointment of Shanna Ward to the resident commission of the Bowdon Housing Authority.

“Her term expired on March 9, 2013, and the housing authority asked that we reappoint her for a one-year term, to March 9, 2014,” Mayor Keith Crawford said.

In other business, Crawford announced that Betty Jane Landers, representing the Sprig 'N Dig garden club, has purchased two new, 6-foot benches, at a cost of $1,000 each.

“She just wanted the blessing of the council,” Crawford said. “One will be placed in front of the old golf shop and the other at the Checker Berry Shoppe. These benches are about three to four weeks out (from being installed).”

The Bowdon city council meets at 7:15 p.m., the second Monday of each month.
