BASEBALL: (Thursday wrap-up) Tigers crush Mt. Zion; Panthers fall to SP

The Diamond Tigers crushed Mt. Zion High School in a make-up game Thursday evening at Norton Field. Douglas County won 14-1.

The Tigers jumped out to a seven run lead in the first inning and added four runs in the second, and three in the third. Mt. Zion scored their only run in the top of the fifth. The game ended by mercy rule.

DC scored their 14 runs off only four hits as Mt. Zion walked 14 Tiger hitters.

Logan Tillem led the offense going 1-for-2 with three RBIs and a run scored. He walked twice. Also picking up hits for DC were Tyler Arnold, Conner Moroney, and Tyler Bramble. Every hit was a single. Watts led Mt. Zion, going 2-for-2 with a run scored.

David Ihrig picked up the win on the mound. He allowed two hits and no runs over 3-2/3 innings. He walked two and struck out four. Also taking the mound were Moroney (1/3 inning) and Tyler Gaines (1 inning).

Blanchard took the loss for Mt. Zion. He allowed three earned runs in two-thirds of an inning. Seven total runs crossed the plate. He allowed two hits and walked seven.

Chapel HIll

After moving their game back a day, the Chapel Hill baseball team hosted South Paulding Thursday evening. The Spartans offense exploded against the Panthers as CHHS fell 15-6.

South Paulding scored five runs in back to back innings to pull away mid-game.

Chapel HIll was outhit only 13-11 but the pitching struggled allowing 10 walks.

South Paulding was led at the plate by Jared Benson and James Maxwell. Both had three hits in the game, Benson scored four runs and Maxwell knocked in four. Austin Godfrey went 2-for-4 with two runs and two RBIs.

Brandon Whiteford led Chapel Hill. He went 3-for-4 with a two RBIs and one run scored. Mason Tritt went 2-for-3 with a home run, three RBIs and a run scored. Ryan Moffett was 2-for-4.

Albert Harless picked up the win for the Spartans. He allowed three earned runs over 3-2/3 innings. He struck out six and walked three.

Brandon Sattenfield picked up the loss, allowing five runs in three innings of work.
