Carroll County Parks Director Trudy Crunkleton is working on a fee schedule for all county parks to make them consistent with one another, at the request of the Board of Commissioners.

Commission Chairman Marty Smith has asked Crunkleton to present a proposed park fee schedule at the April BOC work session for board consideration.

The action came after District 3 Commissioner Tommy Lee brought the issue up at the Thursday’s Boad of Commissioners work session. He said that constituents were frustrated with paying fees at the new Little Tallapoosa Park on Highway 113 and Tanner Park near Mt. Zion, while no fees are charged at McIntosh Reserve in the southern part of the county. He said he would like to see some consistency among the parks.

Crunkleton agreed there needs to be some equality among the parks.

“We should either charge for all or none,” she said. But, she said she wouldn’t want to see the parks stop charging altogether.

“We maintain the parks through those revenues,” Crunkleton said. She said the county made $96,000 at Tanner Park last year from gate revenues.

District 1 Commissioner Trent North said he feels the county needs a consistent fee structure policy, with the fees based on the amenities the parks offer.

Also at the work session, Charles Pope, director of roads and solid waste, presented a list of county roads to be paved during the 2013-2014 fiscal year. The list includes 8.44 miles of paving at a cost of $1,122,520.

The list of roads, with mileage to be paved, include: Coles Lake Road, 1.35 miles; Hutcheson Ferry Road, 1.69 miles; Martin Road, 0.94 miles; Myrl Road, 0.6 miles; Old Five Notch Road, 1.07 miles; Roy Baynor Road, 0.21 miles; Ryder Road, 0.29 miles; Woods Road, 0.33 miles; Etheridge Road, 0.29 miles; Spruill Bridge Road, 0.53 miles; Yates Lane (Carroll County), 0.34 miles; and Yates Lane (Heard County), 0.8 miles.

Pope said Heard County will reimburse Carroll County for the Heard portion of the Yates Lane paving.

Pope also listed nine roads which will be resurfaced, using Georgia Department of Transportation Local Maintenance and Improvement Grant funds, at a cost of $1,286,879.15. The state DOT will pay $989,907.04 while the county will pay a matching 30 percent, $297,000.

The roads to be resurfaced include:

• Old Newnan Road, 3.32 miles, from Carrollton city limits to State Route 16;

• Rocky Branch Road, 1.11 miles, from Villa Rica city limits to South Van Wert Road;

• Old Airport Road, 1.53 miles, from Highway 166 to Shady Grove Road;

• Ledbetter Road, 2.12 miles, from Harlin Lane to the Douglas County line;

• Old Villa Rica Road, 0.55 miles, from U.S. 78 to the CSX railroad;

• Beaver Pond Road, 0.75 miles, from State Route 16 to Mt. Zion city limits;

• Lambert Road, 0.85 miles, from Burwell Road to Lovvorn Road;

• Shady Grove Road, 2.65 miles, from Carrollton city limits to Sandhill-Shady Grove Road;

• South Hickory Level Road, 3.23 miles, from Sandhill-Shady Grove Road to Sandhill-Hickory Level Road.
