The Douglas County Titans youth wrestling team competed at McIntosh High School this past Saturday at the McIntosh Georgia State Qualifier Tournament.

There were six qualifier tournaments held this weekend throughout the state. The top four placers from each age category and weight class go on to compete at the Big Kids and Little Kids State Tournament coming up on March 2nd and March 9th, wrapping up the wrestling season.

For the Titans, Joshua Grant finished second in the 8-under, 68-pound weight class. Kaden Brown finished second in the 10-under, 64-pound division. Cody Lee finished third in the 10-under, 73-pound weight class.

These three will wrestle against the best in the state at the Little Kids State Tournament on March 9th at Pickens High School in Jasper, Ga.

Nate Nelson finished second in the 14-under, 100-pound weight class in the afternoon on Saturday. Nelson will represent the Titans at the Big Kids State Tournament on March 2nd at Parkview High School in Lilburn, Ga.

These were the only Titans that attended the qualifier.

“It's been a tough year for them and the competition has never been more fierce,” said Titans coach Darrell Brown. “These four have been working their butts off and all of their perseverance from this grueling year has finally paid off.”

“There were some tough kids [at the qualifier] and everybody wants to go to state so all of these kids are fighting hard for the top four spots,” Brown added. “They all lost a well fought match against the top guy in their category, but they all won the rest of the matches that they were supposed to win. I think it's pretty awesome that all four of our kids that went to the qualifier placed in the top three. Four kids went,  and all four qualified.”
