For the second time in as many years, the West Georgia Technical College men's basketball team is Region 17 champions after a 65-46 win against second-seeded Oxford College on Sunday afternoon in Warner Robins.

The Golden Knights (17-15) came in as the No. 4 seed and took out the fifth and top-seeded teams to reach Sunday's final, where they won their sixth in a row to claim the region crown.

“How about those kids?” WGTC coach Niki Okolovitch said. “There must be something in the February water around West Georgia Tech. This is the second year in a row that these guys have done this. They told me, ‘Coach, we are not going to lose. We are not going to lose.’ And they came together and did it. I hope the people on our campus know how special those guys are. It’s a great group of kids. They deserve it.”

Four different WGTC players scored in double figures, led by Randazerro Chaney's 17-point effort, followed by Ryan Jones' 14-point, 10-rebound double-double, Alyja Hennings 12 points and Shaun Monk chipped in with 11.

Defensively, the Golden Knights held Oxford (21-10) to just 26 percent shooting from the floor, as it went 1-of-22 from the 3-point line.

WGTC will represent Region 17 in the District 7 Semifinals on March 8-9, which will be held in North Carolina at the site of the Region 10 champion.
