Capt. Chris Dobbs of the Carrollton Police Department said the two were arrested by the Carroll County Sheriff's Office over the weekend under suspicion of a burglary. While being interviewed, the two confessed to the January robbery of the South Park Street Texaco.
Charles Douglas Elder, 17, and the 16-year-old juvenile were both charged with robbery. Both reside in Villa Rica.
Police were called to the convenience store in the early-morning hours of Jan. 21, after two men entered the station shortly before 2:30 a.m. and allegedly demanded the cashier empty the register.
Elder is accused of acting as a lookout for the crime, with the juvenile allegedly punching the female clerk in her right eye before emptying the register of its cash. Both men were wearing red bandanas over their faces.
At the time of the crime, Dobbs said the department's K9 unit had tracked the two men through a field south of the station toward Cross Creek Apartments on Brock Street when the dogs lost the men's scents.
Capt. Jeff Richards of CCSO said deputies responded to a residence in Villa Rica over the weekend after an alleged burglary had taken place.
The investigators were able to recover items allegedly taken in that burglary by the two males, as well as other items believed to have been taken from other robberies.
The two made an admission to the Texaco robbery while being interviewed by CCSO investigators, Richards said.
Also over the weekend:
• A woman allegedly passed a forged check at a Carrollton bank, having it cashed for more than $8,500.
Dobbs said the woman entered the Dixie Street branch of BB&T last Monday, but bank officers discovered the forgery nearly a week later.
"The teller did everything right at the time of the transaction – she called the number on the check to make sure it was real and someone answered," Dobbs said.
The captain said the check was supposedly from the Whitley Law Firm, but when police called the actual law firm, they were told that the check was not authorized.
Dobbs said the same woman tried to cash a check for a similar amount at the BB&T branches in Bremen and in McIntosh Plaza in Carrollton around the same time last Monday. The woman was arrested at the Bremen location, but Carrollton police have not yet interviewed her.
• A Carrollton man said he was beaten and had more than $1,000 stolen from him by unknown assailants.
Police were called to Tanner Medical Center/Carrollton around 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, at which time the man told the officers he was standing at his sister's residence when he was assaulted and robbed by two men.
The victim had walked from the Hungry Wolf restaurant on Brumbelow Road to his sister's home on Foster Street and was standing in the front yard when two men got out of a brown Ford Crown Victoria and kicked and beat him, the victim said.
The men, who the victim never got an accurate view of, took more than $1,000 in cash from his person, the victim told police.
