The Wolves (3-1) put up a run in the first, as a double-play scored Shaquille Jackson, but it was all CSU (2-2) from there. The Cougars outscored UWG, 21-1, through the sixth inning to take control of the game.
In the seventh and eighth, the Wolves scored five runs in each frame, but it was too little too late.
Jackson led the UWG offense with a 4-for-6 performance at the plate with four runs scored and three RBI from the leadoff spot, while Dylan Coleman (3-6, 2 runs, 2 RBI), Trey Dickson (2-2, 2 RBI) and Blake McLemore (2-5, 2 runs) also had multi-hit efforts. Evan Hester and T.J. Eifert had two RBI each.
UWG will look to rebound this weekend in a three-game series at Augusta State, with a single game at 2 p.m. Saturday, followed by a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Sunday.
West Georgia Tech Baseball
The Golden Knights (5-1) continued their hot start to the season with a doubleheader sweep of LaGrange College JV on the road Wednesday night.
The opening game was a barnburner, as the two teams combined for 21 runs, but it was LaGrange's three-run seventh that tied things up at 10-all, forcing extra innings. WGTC got a run in the ninth and held on in the bottom half of the inning to secure the 11-10 win.
Sean Watson and Mike Bryan each had three-hit performances, while Beau Welborne and Bryan had three RBI each.
The nightcap was all West Georgia Tech, as it scored a run in the second, three in the third and two in the fifth, which was more than enough for Tyler Banks, who went five shutout innings, giving up just one run. The Golden Knights added two more runs in the sixth for the 8-0 final tally.
WGTC remains on the road this weekend, as it travels to Snead State for a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday.
