A motorist involved in a deadly two-vehicle collision Friday afternoon in Bowdon will be charged with second degree vehicular homicide, the Georgia State Patrol said.

Billy Ralph Lanier, 65, of Bowdon was killed in the wreck.

Alan Thomas Jiles, 44, of Bowdon will be charged with reckless driving, failing to maintain lane and driving on the wrong side of the road, in addition to the vehicular homicide charge, Georgia State Patrol spokesman Gordy Wright said Saturday.

Lanier was driving a 1992 Ford pickup truck north on Georgia Highway 100 around 5:30 p.m. when a 2003 Chevrolet pickup truck entered his travel lane and struck the Ford on the left side, Wright said. The impact caused Lanier’s truck to overturn, ejecting him. He was not restrained by a seat belt, Wright said.

Jiles, the driver of the Chevrolet, was treated at the scene. A passenger in the Jiles’ vehicle, Ashley Jiles, 33, of Bowdon was also treated at the scene.

Alan Jiles was arrested and taken to the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office.

Rainwater Funeral Home in Bowdon will be handling services for Lanier, and will announce arrangements.
