OMA boys roll Flint River

The Oak Mountain Academy boys’ basketball team is fine-tuning itself for next week’s Region 4-A Tournament, and it did so behind a 45-32 home win over Flint River on Thursday evening.

The Warriors (19-4) placed three scorers in double-figures offensively, led by Wade Mason with 18 points and six blocks, while James Hughes scored 12 points with six rebounds and Blake Mason added 11 points and six assists.

OMA will be the No. 1 seed for next week’s region tourney, which it will host, and opens in the semifinals on Thursday evening at 8:30 against the winner of Tuesday’s quarterfinal matchup.

Flint River girls 42, Oak Mountain 29

The Lady Warriors got a pair of 10-point efforts from Jessi Fuller and Meredith Sammon in the home setback.

The OMA girls are also the No. 1 seed for next week’s region tournament and will play in the semifinals on Thursday night at 7.

In other prep basketball action from Thursday:

Carrollton 9th grade boys 48, New Manchester 46 (OT):
North Carter knocked down a pair of free throws to knot the game up at 46-all and Angelo Osorio’s steal and layup gave the Trojans (6-8) the two-point victory. Mike Boykin led Carrollton with 14 points, followed by Marshun Farris with eight and Osorio with seven.

Carrollton Junior High girls 53, Central 21

In the first round of the West Georgia Middle School League championship, the Lady Trojans advanced with a strong defensive effort.

Kayla Bone led a balanced offensive attack with eight points, followed by A’Dasia Hendricks and Jaila Orozco with seven points apiece.

Carrollton will play for the championship on Saturday morning at 10 against Haralson County at Central Middle School.
