Shaun Austin Ransom, 17, of Whitesburg, was traveling on Georgia Highway 5 around 12:55 a.m. Tuesday just south of Shiloh Church Road.
He was going east on Highway 5 in his 2002 Chevrolet Silverado when the vehicle left the road in a curve and overturned, Georgia State Patrol Public Information Officer Gordy Wright said.
Ransom was ejected from the truck and died at the scene of the accident in Whitesburg.
The 17-year-old was the only occupant in the truck. Distractions or other influences are not expected to be the cause of the accident, Wright said.
He was not wearing his seatbelt, causing him to be ejected from the truck.
The mood at Central High in Carrollton was somber Tuesday, students said, with many students posting notes of condolence to the Ransom family and the rest of the CHS class of 2014 on social networking sites Tuesday.
