Lady Lions clip Callaway

The Central High School girls’ basketball team used a 13-2 run at the start of the fourth quarter to pull away from Callaway in a Region 4-AAA road affair on Tuesday night, 54-48.

The Lady Lions (13-4, 6-0 Region 4-AAA) trailed at the half, 23-21, and were up by two after the third quarter at 33-31 before going on the big run to start the final eight minutes of action.

Callaway (8-4, 4-2) cut the deficit to five points with 1:31 left in the game, but the Lady Cavs wouldn’t get any closer down the stretch.

Sherae Bonner led the Lady Lions with 19 points, while Wesli Simmons dropped in 17 and Brianna Cousins finished with 12. Zamari Hardnett of Callaway led all scorers with 21 points.

Central returns to action on Friday night at Jackson, Atlanta.

Callaway boys 66, Central 53:
The Lions (9-7, 4-2) pulled within four points with 7:30 left in the fourth quarter, but the Cavs (6-6, 5-1) used a 11-2 run late in the game to put it out of reach. Central was held to just four points in the final 4:20 of the game.

Kahlil Wynn paced the Lions with 16 points, followed by Elijah Ross and Justis Ward with 11 apiece.

Oak Mountain Academy boys 61, Solid Rock 48: Wade Mason posted another double-double for the Warriors (15-2, 5-0), finishing with 22 points and 10 rebounds, while brother Blake Mason also recorded a double-double with 17 points and 10 assists.

James Hughes rounded out the double-figure scorers for OMA with 10 points, while Kelton Hunt had seven points and 11 boards.

OMA girls 48, Solid Rock 17: Jessi Fuller led the Lady Warriors (16-1, 5-0) with 12 points, while Meredith Sammon added nine.

College Basketball

The West Georgia Technical College men’s basketball team won an 88-73 decision at Georgia Northwestern Tech on Tuesday night, while the women’s squad suffered an 82-78 setback. Both teams are now 1-1 in conference play.
