Bearden takes final Bassmaster tourney

The 2012 Carroll Bassmasters year ended with Don Bearden winning the December tournament at Lake Wedowee.

Bearden fished a shakyhead plastic worm rig around blowdowns and rocks to catch a five-fish limit of bass, weighing 8.41 pounds. On Bearden's last cast of the day, he caught the Big Bass of the tournament, weighing 3.34 pounds.

A close second was James Hewitt with five bass, weighing 7.81 pounds. Hewitt used a shakyhead plastic worm rig and a rattletrap lure on rocky points to catch his limit. Jason Holland used a crankbait to catch five bass, weighing 7.46 pounds, for third place. Larry Gates was a close fourth place with 7.36 pounds.

Don Bearden and Steven Holland fished together to win the Best Boat Award, with 15.76 pounds. The 20 fishermen caught 89 bass, weighing 118.11 pounds.

Eric Morris won the Carroll Bassmasters Angler of the Year Award for 2012.

Morris had 331 points, while Greg McKibben was second with 321 points. Rounding out the top six was Don Bearden with 298, Carl Quertermus with 294.5, Jason Holland with 294 and David Smith with 291.5. These six fishermen will represent the Carroll Bassmasters in the Georgia State Championship at Lake Eufalua in March.

The Club will hold its annual awards banquet on Jan. 28 at the Irish Bred Pub on The Square. All past club members are invited.
