She was born in Atlanta, Georgia, on May 2, 1927, the daughter of the late Tyre Jones and the late Mattie Hart Jones.
She lived her entire lifetime in this area and worked for many years for Sewell Manufacturing Company, served as a foster parent for many, many children for more than 15 years, and retired from Elizabeth’s Boutique in Villa Rica which she and her daughter, Mattie, owned and operated for more than twenty years. She was a very active and faithful member of Flat Rock Baptist Church, served as the church secretary for many years, was a Sunday School teacher and a member of the Flat Rock choir.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Worthy Jr.; a brother, Lewis Jones, and her daughter, Mattie Worthy on September 29, 2011.
Survivors include her granddaughter, Rory Elizabeth Worthy of Temple; one sister, Hattie Mae Jones Gaston of Atlanta; her brother-in-law, James Worthy and his wife, Mae Clara, of Dayton, Ohio; two great-grandchildren, Justin Watts and Chloe Watts of Temple; a special grandson, Jerome Holloman of Villa Rica; “Special Friends”; and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, December 29, 2012, at 1 p.m. from the Flat Rock Missionary Baptist Church, 40 Flat Rock Drive, Villa Rica, with the Rev. Regynal Eppinger officiating. Music will be by the Flat Rock Choir. Her cousins and deacons of Flat Rock Baptist Church will serve as pallbearers. Interment will follow in the Villa Rica Community Cemetery/Garden of Rest, Thomas Dorsey Drive, Villa Rica.
All ladies and gentlemen are requested to wear a hat to the funeral service in honor of Elizabeth.
Family and friends will gather at the funeral home Saturday morning, December 29, 2012, at 11:30 a.m. and will go in procession to the church for the funeral service.
