Bremen boys edge Temple, 69-67

In a non-region preview of what's to come in Region 5-AA this year, the Bremen High School boys basketball team picked up its first win of the season with a two-point victory against Temple at home in a 69-67 affair on Tuesday night.

Trent McClure and Josh Johnson led Bremen (1-3) with 20 points each, with Nick Forrister adding 10 points.

Temple's Trevor Shell had 33 points and Briahious McPherson added 13 points in the loss.

Bremen will host Mt. Zion, while Temple (0-5) will travel to Galloway on Friday.

In other prep basketball action from Tuesday:

Bremen girls 52, Temple 21:
The Lady Blue Devils improved to 3-2 on the year with a 31-point win against the Lady Tigers (0-5).

Jamia Johnson and Jordan Hill scored 14 points each in the win.

Temple was led by Donique Channer's seven points.

Villa Rica girls 63, North Paulding 28: The Lady Wildcats (5-3, 3-2 Region 5-AAAAA) returned to region play with a big win at North Paulding.

Britney Wright and Rhianna Warren led Villa Rica with 13 points each. Wright added 10 rebounds for the double-double.

VR returns home on Friday to face Woodland, Cartersville at 6 p.m.

Carrollton girls 63, Cedartown 27: After a 74-point win in the teams' first meeting, Lady Trojan coach Shon Thomaston took a different approach to the rematch.

Carrollton (4-0) took 17 players, bringing up some from junior-varsity, to get valuable early-season experience for the girls. It paid off in another big win, where all 17 stepped on the floor.

The Lady Trojans were led by Kenyata Hendrix's 13 points, while Brooklyn Emory and Tasmine Boykin added 12 points each, with the varsity players only playing into the third quarter.

Up next is a trip to Rome on Saturday, as the Lady Trojans will look to remain perfect on the year at 3 p.m.

Carrollton boys 72, Cedartown 29: Following a slow start to the game, the Trojans (3-1) got things going as the game went on to pick up their third straight win of the year.

After only scoring seven points in the first quarter and being tied 7-all following eight minutes of action, Carrollton scored 51 points in the second and third quarters to put the game away.

The Trojans were led by Riley Criswell's 24-point effort, while Byron McCall added 12 points and Montae Glenn chipped in with nine points.

Carrollton will face Rome on the road at 4:30 p.m. Saturday.

Bowdon girls 57, Randolph County (Ala.) 22: The Red Devilettes improved to 3-1 on the year with the win across the state line, while the Bowdon boys (2-2) suffered a 55-51 setback.

Carrollton Junior High girls 48, Temple 19: Ansley Barge's 19 points led the Lady Trojans to a big win.

Bay Springs Middle School boys 46, Bowdon 38: Three Bobcats reached double figures, with Jacob Forrestor leading the way with 20 points and Jamarcus Middlebrooks and Ladarius Reece adding 10 points each.

Bay Springs MS girls 36, Bowdon 16: The Lady Bobcats used a 20-0 run in the third quarter to cruise to victory over Bowdon on Monday night.

Kenyata Cormier had 12 points in the win, as Olamide Olajubutu added 10 points and April Battle chipped in with six.

In prep wrestling action from Tuesday night:

The Central High School wrestling team dropped a 42-27 dual at Paulding County on Tuesday night.

The Lions picked up pins from Jarrett Thomas at 160 pounds, Joe Simpkins (170), Trace Musick (182) and Kirey Thompson (195), while Levi Huckeba (152) earned a win by decision.

"Very tough matchup. The meat of their lineup is in the lower weights. I thought they wrestled very hard. I thought the meat of our lineup wrestled very well. Right now, we're just sort of getting rid of our green horns. Very proud of how our kids wrestled [Tuesday]," Central coach Marcus Marenda said.

In the junior-varsity bouts, Connor Eldred and Michael Paea both won by pins.
