Mrs. Ruth Naomi Lyle Smith, 98, of Hiram, Ga., passed away Sunday, Dec. 9, 2012. She was born May 24, 1914, in Carroll County, Ga., the daughter of the late Berryman A. Lyle and Julia Sticher Lyle.

Mrs. Smith was a homemaker and member of Antioch Baptist Church. For more than 20 years, she was known to many school children as the pumpkin lady in the Burwell Community.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lamer Cobbus Smith; a son, Silas Berryman Smith; brothers, Willy, Marlin, Lamar, Tommy and Wayne Lyle; sisters, Wily Chandler and Ruby Buchanan; brothers-in-law, Al Chandler and Duard Buchanan; sisters-in-law, Lilly Lyle, Minnie Lyle, Susie Lyle and Mildred Lyle; grandson, Kenneth Allen III; and great-grandsons, Isaiah Byrom and John Henson.

Survivors include her children, Betty Freeman of Hiram, Ga., Barbara Howard of Lexington, Ky., Bobbie and Joe Adams of Vonore, Tenn., and L.C. and Marie Smith of Carrollton, Ga.; sisters-in-law, Bertha Lyle and Odale McGukin and daughter-in-law, Ellen Smith; also 16 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, 41 great-great-grandchildren; and two great-great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 12, at Martin & Hightower Heritage Chapel with Mr. Eddie Preston, the Rev. Howard Woody and the Rev. Damon Smith officiating. Pallbearers will be the following: Andy Caswell, Eddie Preston, Mark Smith, Mike Allen, Pat Allen, Joey Adams, Jason Adams and Matt Smith. Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Caswell, Jim Adams, Justin Adams, Kenneth Allen IV and Josh Caswell. Interment will follow in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m.
