He is preceded in death by his wife, Vera Anne House Martin; and survived by his companion, Susan Herringdine of Carrollton; his daughter, Vicki Martin Dillon and husband John B. Floyd Dillon III of Gainesville, Georgia; daughter, Terri Martin Kelley and husband Mark Alan Kelley of Buford, Georgia; son, Richard Arland Jones and wife Catherine Cook Jones of Jackson, Georgia; and daughter, Kathryn Jones Schroeder and husband Thomas Schroeder of McDonough, Georgia; his grandchildren, John B. Floyd Dillon IV, William Jacob Joseph Schroeder, Seth Thomas Schroeder and Emma Kathryn Schroeder.
A native of Atlanta and son of Margaret Rankin Martin and William Edward Martin Sr., he graduated from Boys High in Atlanta and attended Georgia Institute of Technology. He worked for Delta Airlines as an engineer and retired in 1985 after 36 years of service. He was a loving, generous father who always placed others before himself.
A graveside service will be officiated by Rev. Mike Cowart, 10 a.m. Saturday, December 1, 2012, at Forest Lawn Memorial Cemetery, 5755 Mallory Road, Atlanta/College Park, Georgia.
