Turnovers proved to be costly for the Villa Rica High School football team in its season finale on Friday night, falling in a 37-7 contest to North Paulding at Sam McIntyre Field.

The Wildcats (4-6, 4-6 Region 5-AAAAA) fumbled the opening kickoff, leading to a North Paulding (7-3, 7-3) score. Moments later, a fumble inside the five-yard line stopped a VR scoring drive in the early goings.

Then, after forcing a punt, VR threw an interception, setting up the second Wolfpack score of the night before adding one more to end the half up, 20-0.

The third quarter belonged to North Paulding — which reaches the Class AAAAA state playoffs as the No. 4 seed — as it scored on the opening drive, scored off another fumble and added a field goal with 14 seconds left to take a 37-0 advantage.

Villa Rica would get on the board midway through the fourth quarter when senior tailback Scooter Cousins scored from 25 yards out for the final tally of the night.
