Pauline McClain

Pauline W. McClain, 95, of 4293 Stone Mountain St., Tallapoosa, died Oct. 25, 2012. She was born Nov. 29, 1916, in Tallapoosa to the late George and Lera Hutcheson Williams.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Cliff McClain, and daughter, Irene Witcher.

Mrs. McClain retired from the American Thread Company and was a member of Providence Baptist Church. She enjoyed flowers, gardening, and yard sales.

Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Tommie Ann and Claude Day of Niceville, Fla., and Clestelle and Terry Lyle of Tallapoosa; son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Charlotte McClain of Buchanan; seven grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Beatrice and Oscar Witcher of Tallapoosa and brother and sister-in-law, Bobby and Jerrie Williams of Bremen.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 28, at Miller Funeral Home with the Rev. Tony Day officiating. Music was provided by Jan Layton. Pallbearers were Marty McClain, Tyler Layton, Richard Corn, Blake Hicks, David Blalock, Eddie Gann and Toby Day. Randall Crew served as an honorary pallbearer.

Burial followed in the McClain Family Cemetery.

Lydia McGraw

Miss Lydia Priscilla McGraw, daughter of the late W.O. McGraw and Myrtle Gilley McGraw died Oct. 24, 2012.

She is survived by a brother, Spencer and two sisters, Brenda and Delores.

Graveside services were conducted Friday, Oct. 26, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Mt. Zion Cemetery with Rev. Britt Madden officiating.

H.G. Denman

Mr. “H.G.” Harris G. Denman, 92, of Hudson Drive, Bremen, passed away Oct. 29, 2012.

Mr. Denman was born on Dec. 3, 1919, in Tallahatchie County, Miss., the son of the late James Denman and Nellie Harris Denman.

He was a retired Truck Driver of Yellow Freight, a Veteran of the U. S. Army and a member of Bremen Masonic Lodge No. 456.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Betty Reece Denman of Bremen; daughter, Louise Schealy of Rochester, Wash.; son, Bill Layton of Redmond, Ore.; brother, Earl Denman of Mississippi; two special nieces, Myra McDow and Edith Cash; and seven grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31.

Funeral Services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 1, 2012, at the Chapel of Hightower Funeral Home with the Rev. Ricky Shirley officiating.

Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Donald Pollard

Mr. Donald Travis Pollard, 45, Buchanan passed away Saturday, Oct. 27, 2012. He was born in Marietta on June 3, 1967. Mr. Pollard was a brick mason.

Survivors include one daughter, Laura Nicole Weldon of Buchanan; mother and step-father, Brenda and James Rowell of Buchanan; father, Donald Pollard of Buchanan; one sister and brother-in-law, Crystal and Joseph Kuykendall of Buchanan; one brother and sister-in-law, Franklin Lee and Donna Pollard of Bowdon; two grandchildren, Avery Weldon and Katie Weldon; and a number of other relatives.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 30, from Hutcheson’s Memorial Chapel with Rev. Raymond Cash and Danny Hutcheson officiating. Music will be rendered by Rev. Buddy Gentry. Interment will follow in Buchanan City Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Alfred Wright

Alfred William Wright, of Tallapoosa, Ga., passed away at his home on Riverside Road, Tuesday afternoon, Oct. 30, 2012, at the age of 79. He was born in Tallapoosa, Dec. 30, 1932, to the Rev. Taylor and Lottie Wright.

He served in the U. S. Navy from 1952-56 during the Korean War. He married Villa Dean Clark, also of Tallapoosa, Sept. 12, 1958. They were married for 54 years until death separated them. He was a descendent of many of the first pioneers in West Georgia, including the names: Rowell, Brown, Philpot, Eaves, McAdams, Anthony and York.

Mr. Wright was most known in West Georgia as a businessman. He owned and operated Wright’s Army Store in Tallapoosa for 40 years, from 1964-2004. He began his business by selling Army Surplus door-to-door from the back of his pickup truck. Prior to starting his business, he worked at Republic Steel Company in Gadsden, Ala.

He was a devoted Christian and church leader, at various times serving as a Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, Sunday School Director, Chorister, and Deacon Emeritus. He was a member of Riverside Baptist Church in Tallapoosa and had also been a member of West View Baptist Church in Tallapoosa. In recent years, he attended Midway Macedonia Baptist Church in Villa Rica, where his son is the pastor.

He loved being at home with his family, and he loved the Riverside community. He died within 2 miles from where he was born and less than 100 yards form where he attended school in the first grade. He traveled around the world, but in his own words, “there’s no place like home.”

In addition to his parents, Mr. Wright was preceded in death by his brother-Lloyd Wright, sister-Alma Bowman, sister-Idell Cobb, and son-Richie Wright.

He is survived by his wife, Dean Wright; son, Alan Wright of Tallapoosa; son, Todd and Lisa Wright of Roopville; and son, Brad Wright of Buford. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, Shannon and Lin Clayton, Lauren and Jay Rogers, Adam and Lauren Wright, Michael Pistor, Will Wright, Ashley Wright (Steve Sailors), Zachary Wright, Hannah and Nick Neely, Olivia and Brian Long, Brandon and Christin Wright, Holly Wright and Savannah Wright; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by his family and friends as a man of honesty, integrity, determination, devotion to hard work, and humor.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1, at Riverside Baptist Church with his son, the Rev. Todd Wright officiating. He will lie in state from 1 to 2 p.m. Pallbearers serving will be grandsons, Adam Wright, Brandon Wright, Will Wright, Michael Pistor, Brian Long, Nick Neely, Jay Rogers and Zachary Wright.

Interment will follow in Riverside Church Cemetery with the Rev. Buddy Gentry officiating and Haralson County Veterans Association providing military honors.

His family will receive friends Thursday, Nov. 1, at Miller Funeral Home between the hours of 6 and 9 p.m.
