Mr. Douglas Edward Phillips, age 63, of Carrollton, passed away suddenly Wednesday, October 24, 2012. He was born November 13, 1948, in Carrollton, Ga., the son of the late John T. Phillips and Velma Smith Phillips.

Mr. Phillips was co-owner of Phillips Brothers Auto Service. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era and was a member of Holy Ground Baptist Church. Mr. Phillips also was an avid bass fisherman and outdoorsman. Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Noelle and Felton Buchanan of Bowdon; sisters and spouses, Charlotte and Fred Boyd of Villa Rica, Ga., and Ginny and Merlin Caldwell of Carrollton; brother and spouse, J. Carlin and Lila Phillips of Woodland, Ala.; four grandchildren, Logan, Dylan, Nathan and Gretchen Buchanan; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, October 28, 2012, at 2 p.m. from Martin & Hightower Heritage Chapel with Dr. Mason Bush officiating. Pallbearers will be Wade Caldwell, Clay Boyd, Evan Phillips, Bruce Eison, Bruce Hembree, Joey Higgins and Jim Uglum. Honorary pallbearers will be Cleve Hendrix, Larry Hendrix and Gerald Hendrix. Interment will follow in Ephesus Christian Church Cemetery with Rev. J. Carlin Phillips saying the closing prayer. The American Legion Post #143 will make the flag presentation.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 4 to 8 p.m.
