Marnee Downey

Little Miss Marnee Kay Downey, 8-months-old, of Tallapoosa, Ga., went to be with Jesus on Oct. 10, 2012.

She was born on Feb. 2, 2012, in Villa Rica, Ga.

Survivors include her parents, Melanie Ann Prichard and Robert Derek Downey, both of Tallapoosa; grandparents, Bob and Marilyn Downey of Tallapoosa; and aunt and uncle, Jaye and Mark Evans of Tallapoosa.

A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14, at Miller Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Travis Prichard and Bro. James Shell officiating. Music was provided by Bryant Hand.

Interment followed in Hollywood City Cemetery.

Betty Vines

Mrs. Betty Jean Kelley Vines, 76, of Buchanan, Ga., passed away Oct. 11, 2012. Mrs. Vines was born Dec. 14, 1935, to the late Paul and Maggie Easterwood Kelley.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son and daughter-in-law, Benny and Shelia Smith Vines; and grandson, Heath Vines.

Mrs. Vines was a member of Truth and Life Ministries.

Mrs. Vines is survived by her beloved husband of 56 years, Frank Vines of Buchanan; daughter and son-in-law, Belinda and Bradley Bentley of Buchanan; sons and daughter-in-law, Barry Vines of Buchanan and Brad and Suzanne Vines of Tallapoosa; grandchildren, Josh and Tara Cash, Treston and Whitney Vines, Brandy Vines, Drake Vines, Brandall Bentley, Bradee Bentley and Johnathan Daniel; great-grandchildren, Camdyn, Ralyz, Laina and Dara; sister and brother-in-law, Martha and Euell McElwee of Tallapoosa; and caregiver, Allison Short of Bowdon.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12, at Miller Funeral Home with the Revs. Robert Vines, Jason Hudgins and Donald Oswalt officiating. Music was provided by Jamie Hutcheson and Robert Vines. Pallbearers were Josh Cash, Treston Vines, Drake Vines, Brandall Bentley, Johnathan Daniel and Rocky Rochester.

Interment followed in New Canaan Church cemetery.

Corley Goldin

Corley Goldin of Temple died Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2012.

Services were at 4 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15, at First Baptist Church of Villa Rica with Dr. Corky Addison, the Revs. Calvin Brown and Steve Swafford officiating. The eulogy was provided by Mr. Cam Daniell. Burial followed in Concord Baptist Church Cemetery.

Helen Higgins

Helen Bennett Higgins, 77, of Buchanan died Monday, Oct. 15, 2012. Mrs. Higgins was born in Calhoun County, Ala., on Feb. 6, 1936. She was the daughter of the late Howard Bennett and the late Mamie V. Bennett. Mrs. Higgins was a retired medical technician. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Higgins.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Carolyn and Jeff Sims of Clarksville, Tenn., and Debra and Robert Allguire of Tallapoosa; four sons and three daughters-in-law, Danny Ray Higgins of Norcross, Kenneth Allen and Gail Higgins of Newnan, James Jeffrey and Karen Higgins of Bremen and Robert Brian and Angela Higgins of Franklin; two brothers, Joe Bennett of Acworth and Jerry Bennett of Pensacola, Fla.; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a number of other relatives.

Memorial services were conducted from the Graveside at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 16, at Buchanan City Cemetery with the Rev. Paul Ingebrigtsen officiating.

Harvey Hobbs Sr.

Harvey Lee Hobbs Sr., 81, of Temple died Friday, Oct. 12, 2012. Mr. Hobbs was born in Haralson County on Sept. 25, 1931. He was the son of the late Aaron Mathew Hobbs and the late Mary Lou Leatherwood Hobbs.

Mr. Hobbs was a veteran of the U. S. Army serving in the Korean War.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Carter Hobbs; one sister, Estora Buchanan; three brothers, William Hobbs, Ernest Hobbs and Henry Hobbs.

Survivors include two sons, Jackie Carter of Temple and Harvey Lee Hobbs Jr. of Temple; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Jo Ann and Seals Pope of Buchanan and Estelle and Jack Bramlett of Aragon; one brother and sister-in-law, Eugene and Pauline Hobbs of Buchanan; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a number of other relatives.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14, at Hutcheson’s Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Ralph Ploof and Danny Hutcheson officiating.

Burial followed in Union Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

Willie Estelle Lumsden Miller, 94, of Bremen died Thursday, Oct. 11, 2012, in a local health facility.

Services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14, at Hightower Funeral Home. Burial followed in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Dortha Musgrave

Dortha Carpenter Hunt Musgrave, 79, died Oct. 6, 2012, in Ypsilanti, Mich. She was born Oct. 27, 1932, in Ervinville, Ga., daughter of the late N.J. and Eula (Hunt) Carpenter.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her two husbands, Thomas J. Hunt and Lawrence Musgrave; son, Larry Musgrave; and brother, Jack Carpenter.

Dortha was employed with General Motors and later began working with Ford Motor Company, where she retired in 1994. She will always be remembered for her love of animals, especially her dog, Brodie.

Survivors include her children, Danny and Betty Hunt, Kenneth and Edna Hunt, Gary and Kay Musgrave, Kathy and Mike Stefinia, Debra and Tip Sturgill, Jerry and Karen Musgrave and Karon and James Mite; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Floyd Carpenter.

Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Oct. 11, at Miller Funeral Home with the Revs. Clarence Bright and Wayne Pike officiating. Pallbearers were Kevin Hunt, Kerry Hunt, Carl Hunt, Eric Hunt, Ricky Hicks and Jonathan James.

Entombment followed in Forrest Lawn Cemetery in Bremen.
