Voters were waiting in line Monday morning as advanced voting opened in Carroll County for the Nov. 6 general election. By the end of the day, 755 had cast ballots, according to Becky Deese, county elections supervisor.

From today through Oct. 26, polls will be open for early voting from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., on weekdays only, at the Carroll County Elections Office, 423 College St., Carrollton. One Saturday voting session will be held Oct. 27, when polls will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

During the final week of advanced voting, Oct. 29 to Nov. 2, the elections office will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Also, during that final week, a second advanced voting site will be open at Powell Park Arts Center, 423 Leslie Drive, Villa Rica, from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Advanced voting ends at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2. No voting of any kind will be held on Monday, Nov. 5. Voters on election day, Nov. 6, must vote at their assigned precinct. Information on voter precinct location is available online at www.sos.ga.gov/mvp.

Voters must have a valid photo I.D. when voting early. According to the Georgia Secretary of State, acceptable photo IDs include:

• any valid state or federal government issued photo ID, including a free voter ID Card issued by your county registrar’s office or the Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS);

• a Georgia Driver’s License, even if expired;

• valid employee photo ID from any branch, department, agency or entity of the U.S. Government, Georgia, or any county, municipality, board, authority or other entity of this state;

• valid U.S. passport ID;

• valid U.S. military photo ID;

• or valid tribal photo ID.

Deese reminds residents that no campaigning is allowed within 150 feet of any precinct during voting times. Prohibited materials within the voting area are signs (including signs on vehicles), T-shirts and stickers. Voters are not allowed to discuss candidates among themselves or with the elections staff within any polling place or within 25 feet of any voter standing in line.

Other state rules applying to advance voting include:

• children under age 18 may accompany a parent into the voting booth, but may not be disruptive or interfere with the voting process, vote the ballot or operate any function of the voting machine;

• no voter can occupy the voting compartment already occupied by another except when giving assistance after completing the required authorization form;

• no person can use a cellular telephone or other electronic device once he/she has entered the voting enclosure;

• and no pets are allowed, exceptions will be made for guide dogs and other service animals only.
