Larry “Coot” Gene Akin, 63, of Bowdon, passed away Oct. 13, 2012, at North Fulton Hospital after suffering a massive stroke at his home. Mr. Akin was born April 2, 1949, in Mt. Zion, Ga., the son of the late Ollie and Mary Alma Akin.

He was a retired auto rebuilder who took much pride in his work. He enjoyed spending time on the computer reading Fox News and with his buddy, Don Bohn, solving the world’s problems over breakfast at Five Star Mfd Homes.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Michael Akin; brothers, sisters and brothers-in-law, Edward Akin, Clifford Akin, Benny Akin, Ray and Gennie Akin, Sara and Roy Bradley; and brother-in-law, Cecil Jordan.

He is survived by his wife, Patty Rollins Akin, his childhood sweetheart and best friend. Other survivors include his children and their spouses, Ryan and Leanne Akin, Paula Hall, Heather Williams, Sean and Kelley Hall, Cheree and Shawn Goolsby; grandchildren and their spouses, Rusty and Seth Akin, baby Grayson Akin (who he was looking forward to meeting in November), Layton Williams, Cody and Lucy Hall, Casey Pearce and Tabatha Towns, Drew Morris and Aleah Austin, Jake Morris, Jonathon Whisenhunt, Kay and Nick Kendrick, Dillon and Jeremy Goolsby; great-grandchildren, Payton Harper and Zach Towns; sisters and brother-in-law, Martha and Bill Bush of Marshall, Mich., and Deborah Jordan of Bowdon, Ga.; his sister-in-laws, Terry Akin of Rocky Hill, Conn., June Akin of Spokane, Wash., and Janice Akin of Carrollton, Ga.; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jerry and Karen Rollins of Bowdon, Ga.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2012, at the Chapel of Rainwater Funeral Home. Mr. Akin’s nephews, Scott and Jay Akin will officiate. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers, Don Bohn, Ray Caldwell, Tim Eady, Eldred Eidson, Bob Freeman, Jay Grizzard, Mike Haynes, Jimmy Kemp, Steve Kemp, Perry Richardson, David Robinson and Johnny Vise. Music will be provided by Heather Williams. Interment will follow at Midway Community Cemetery in Bowdon with the Rev. Ralph Ploof conducting the graveside services.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2012.
