Mrs. Catherine Gosdin, a resident of Carrollton Manor and formerly of Bowdon, Georgia, passed away on October 12, 2012. She was 83.

Mrs. Gosdin was born on December 18, 1927, to the late Mann and Fannie Mae Johnson Word. She was a homemaker and a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alews Gosdin; her daughters, Barbara Wiggins and Martha Jane Gosdin; her brothers, Alvin, Dillard, and Ellis Word; and her grandchildren, Michelle Noles and Dent Nelson.

Survivors include her son, Donny Gosdin of Woodland, Ala.; her daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Terry Nelson of Graham, Ala.; her grandchildren and their spouses, Dedra and Fulvio Cenciarelli, Michael Gosdin, Lee and Jennifer McKenzie, Alisha Gosdin, Pete and Amy Wiggins, Lyn and Craig Wiggins, Elesa Varnadore, and Terri Stubs; 19 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 16, 2012, at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Rev. Roy Wysner and Rev. Terry Eason will officiate. Pallbearers will be Lee McKenzie, Fulvio Cencirelli, Gabe Wiggins, Craig Wiggins, Pete Wiggins, and Joshua Gosdin. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Prior to the service, her body will lie in the church from 1 p.m. until the funeral hour.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, October 15, 2012, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.
