Trojans finish fourth at McIntosh

The Carrollton High School boys cross country team finished in fourth place at the Asics Invitational at the McIntosh Nature Preserve in Whitesburg on Saturday with 144 team points, trailing Oconee County (55), Columbus (96) and Sandy Creek (137) in the 23-team Class A-AAAA race that was hosted by Alexander High School.

The Lady Trojans came in sixth place as a team in the Class A-AAAA race, while Bremen took seventh. Bremen also competed in the boys race, finishing in 18th, while Heard County took 21st and Temple was 23rd.

Leading the way for the Trojans was Cassidy Emory in 19th place (17:43.80). He was followed by Blake Hamil (22nd; 17:53.92), Michael Crowder (25th; 18:01.10), Anthony Martinez (35th; 18:20.56), North Carter (43rd; 18:29.42), Tristian McEwen (53rd; 18:40.87) and Chris Foster (64th; 18:59.92).

Rounding out Bremen’s finishers were Mason Hicks (78th; 19:35.28), Blake Ellis (109th; 20:38.82), Jonathan Gunther (119th; 21:21.79), Tiernan Whytock (122nd; 21:28.48), Austin Miller (131st; 22:44.13) and Kirby Cargal (141st; 23:55.01).

For Heard County, Deron Swint led the way in 87th place (19:56.30) and he was followed by Keith Moss (104th; 20:29.21), Shawn Foster (121st; 21:26.28), Jordan Timmons (143rd; 24:11.16), Carl Lipford (145th; 24:18.55) and Luke Carroll (150th; 27:00.48).

Leading Temple was Dakota Weaver (21:01.41) and Bryan Dupree (21:04.08) in 116th and 117th place, respectively, followed by Chris Acree (132nd; 22:44.83), Daniel Jones (133rd; 22:46.69), Austin Diedrich (148th; 25:05.12) and David Braden (149th; 25:24.50).

In the girls Class A-AAAA competition, which was won by Landmark Christian (44), Carrollton had 163 points and Bremen was at 190.

Leading the Lady Trojans was Emily Adams in 17th (21:35.70) and she was followed by Zavannah Brown (27th; 22:05.08), Crystal Ruiz (33rd; 22:17.38), Nicole Wilson (54th; 23:26.12), Madison Wright (59th; 23:43.80), Elizabeth Harrison (71st; 24:24.50) and Haley Webb (83rd; 25:19.44).

Ashley Camp paved the way for Bremen in 18th place (21:42.89) and she was followed by Morgan Wallace (37th; 22:37.94), Allie Poindexter (42nd; 22:57.43), Mary Everett (52nd; 23:20.17), Madison Holmes (70th; 24:20.33), Mylee Connor (86th; 26:00.47) and Jordan Hill (87th; 26:04.33).

Temple also had two runners — Mavis Ghanem (89th; 26:26.33) and Halie Vines (100th; 28:15.82) — compete as individuals.

In the girls JV-B race, Carrollton came in seventh place (193) and Bremen took ninth (265).

Leading the Lady Trojans was Katie Cantrell (9th; 23:19.78), Holley Dalton (47th; 26:09.12), Mina Momtahan (52nd; 26:20.14), Erin Matthews (55th; 26:30.32), Sarah Bryan (56th; 26:30.46) and Emily Bryan (89th; 29:12.20). For Bremen, Cass Morris (34th; 25:23.98) was the leader and was followed by Rebecca Batten (36th; 25:33.43), Eve Dennis (68th; 26:59.92), Hannah Smith (87th; 28:54.53), Elizabeth Evans (96th; 29:51.44) and Beth Treadwell (99th; 30:10.48).

In the JV boys championship, Carrollton captured ninth place as a team led by a 13th-place effort from Will Gordy (18:01.58). Rounding out the Trojan finishers were Eli Payne (29th; 18:25.88), Emmery Cary (71st; 19:05.72), Stan Huffman (89th; 19:13.62), Samuel Campbell (93rd; 19:16.28), Nathan Trippe (116th; 19:37.60) and William Smith (133rd; 19:57.72).

Carrollton will play host to the Carroll County Championships on Thursday at 5 p.m.
