The Lady Eagles (18-12) finished third in the Region 6-A Tournament, but as private and public schools in Class A were split for the first time this year, MZ had to wait to see if its name would be on the bracket when it was released Wednesday afternoon.
Of the 16 teams to make the public school bracket, the Lady Eagles take the No. 10 seed and will travel to face seventh-seeded Echols County next Wednesday in a best two-out-of-three series.
Two-time defending Class A state champions Gordon Lee earned the top seed in the tournament, while Trion — also in Region 6-A — picked up the No. 14 seed.
MZ coach Millie Grimes could not be reached for comment as of press time Wednesday evening.
