The No. 5 Trojans (3-2, 2-0 Region 5-AAAA) wanted to get up early and put the Tigers (0-5, 0-2) down from the get-go. They did just that as Dan Harris capped the opening drive with a five-yard touchdown run and with Trey Chivers’ two-point run, the Trojans were up 8-0 early.
From there, the Carrollton defense forced a fumble, recovered by Casey Collins, and recorded a safety to go up 10-0. Will Hesterlee added a two-yard touchdown run and Chivers scored on an 87-yard run, as the Trojans went into halftime up 24-0.
“I thought we came out, executed well offensively, did really well in the kicking game, got a safety. Defensively, we stopped them, held them in the first half and that was the difference. We got out to that 24-0 halftime lead and was able to roll on from there,” Carrollton coach Rayvan Teague said.
The Tigers made it 24-6, scoring on the first drive of the second half, but the Trojan offense went right back to work as Harris scored his second touchdown of the game and Jarvis Terrell got into the end zone. Jack Garrett rounded out the Carrollton scoring on the night.
Carrollton’s defense again put on a show, forcing two fumbles, getting a safety and an interception.
“We continue to get a little bit better every week, get a little more physical, just a little more consistent in our play,” Teague said.
The Trojans return home next week to host Troup.
