Buford Raymond Capes of Bremen passed away Thursday, October 4, 2012, in a local hospital. He was born in Carroll County, June 4, 1922, son of the late Henry Walter Capes and Viola Suddeth Capes.

Mr. Capes was a retired insurance salesman having worked for Globe Life Insurance Company and United American Insurance Company. He was a member of the Bremen First Baptist Church and a U.S. Navy veteran, having served in World War II.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Oscar Capes, Leon Capes, Sonny Capes, Harvey Capes; and sisters, Mary McCormick and Nellie Jiles.

Survivors include his wife, Jeanette Cantrell Capes of Bremen; a son, Randy Capes of Bremen; a sister, Elsie Hardegree of Carrollton; granddaughters and spouse, Lindsey and Scott Varnado of Fort Campbell, Ky., and Maycie Capes of Knoxville, Tenn.; and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be Saturday, October 6, at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Hightower Funeral Home with Brother Herman Parker and Mr. Scott Varnado officiating. A private inurnment will follow at a later date in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
