Mary-Ruth Allen

Mrs. Mary-Ruth Garrett Allen, 85, of Tallapoosa, Ga., died Sept. 19, 2012. She was born March 12, 1927, in Tallapoosa to the late James Otis and Dora A. Trimble Garrett.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Dorsey Allen; daughter, Margaret Carole Herren; sister and brothers-in-law, Eleanor and Tyus Meunier and Hubert Smith; and brother and sister-in-law, Lester and Ruth Garrett.

Mrs. Allen retired as a cashier from Smith’s Grocery in Tallapoosa. She was a life-long member of the First United Methodist Church of Tallapoosa. She loved antiques, crafts, pocketbooks and stuffed animals. She loved and cherished her family. She loved to travel, she particularly enjoyed traveling to Canada, Nova Scotia, Michigan and Maine.

She is survived by her daughter, Claire Allen of Tallapoosa; sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Brenda Allen of Bremen, Ga. and Mark and Deré Allen of Tallapoosa; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Francis Smith of Decatur, Ga.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Sept. 22, at the First United Methodist Church of Tallapoosa with the Revs. Jimmy Bryan and Jason Hatchett officiating. Music was provided by Harold McWhorter and Megan Hatchett. Pallbearers were Louie Reganos, Josh Williams, Derek Able, Sammy Farmer, Thomas Meunier, Jimmy Allen, Donald Allen and Sonny Farmer.

Burial followed in Hollywood Cemetery.

Cathy Ann Davis of Tallapoosa died Sept. 26, 2012. She was born Nov. 1, 1952, to the late J.D. and Betty Bolden Davis.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Sept. 29, at the chapel of Miller Funeral Home with the Rev. Alton Stamey and Bro. Tommy Allen officiating. Burial followed in Hollywood Cemetery.

Ruby V. Dollar

Ruby Vinson Dollar of Waco died Monday Sept. 24, 2012 in Auburn, Ala. She was born in Floyd County, Feb. 8, 1934, daughter of the late Joseph Parker “J.P.” Vinson and Gladys Rosena Landrum Vinson. Mrs. Dollar was a former employee of the T&W Manufacturing Company and a member of the Eastern Star Bremen Chapter 309.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Alton Dollar and a brother, E. B. Vinson.

Survivors include children, Fay and Ken Holt, Cusseta, Ala., Jan and Jack Penland of Cedartown, Alton E. “Gene” and Sherry Dollar Jr. of Clarksville; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Services were held at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28, at Hightower Funeral Home with the Rev. Buddy Gentry officiating. Rites will be furnished by the Bremen Chapter 309 of the Eastern Star. Tim Lumpkin, Dan Lumpkin, Justin McCarty, Skyler Dollar and Eric Goodgine served as pallbearers. Burial followed in Northview Cemetery in Cedartown.

Roy Eaves

Roy Rudolph Eaves of Temple, died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2012, in a local hospital. He was born in Haralson County on Jan. 26, 1930, the son of the late Roy Delcer Eaves and Estelle Causey Eaves. Mr. Eaves was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a former heavy equipment operator.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia Woody Eaves of Temple; sons and daughter-in-law, Aaron and Sherry Eaves of Wedowee, Ala., and Vernon Eaves of Temple; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Services were held at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28, at Hightower Funeral Home with the Rev. Nelson Shelnutt officiating.

Wayne Folds

Elbert Wayne Folds of Bremen died Friday, Sept. 28, 2012. He was born in Hillsborough County, Fla., April 5, 1960, son of Margaret Edinborough Folds and the late Elvis Ray Folds.

Mr. Folds was employed as a landscaper and a member of the Covenant Life Church of God.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Allen Folds of Bremen; mother, Margaret E. Folds of Buchanan; daughters, Star Gibson of Lithia Springs and Bobbie Folds of Carrollton; son, Alan Bishop of Dallas; sisters and brother-in-law, Kathy and Chuck Twist of Fairburn and Brenda Fortenberry of Buchanan; brothers and sister-in-law, Elvis Folds of Bremen, Eddie and Kathy Folds of Buchanan and Leon Folds of Buchanan; and five grandchildren.

Services were held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 1, at Hightower Funeral Home in Bremen with the Rev. John Butler officiating.

Evelyn Wilson Maynard, 85, of Bremen died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2012, at her residence.

Elizabeth Stewart

Elizabeth Joyce Dunn Stewart, 78, of Bremen died Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2012. She was born Jan. 22, 1934, in Florida, the daughter of the late Wiley Sam Dunn and the late Elsie Hyder Dunn.

According to Mrs. Stewart’s wishes, she was cremated.

Memorial services were conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 1, at Jones-Wynn Funeral Home. Interment followed in the chapel Mausoleum at Meadowbrook Memory Gardens.

Doris Adcock Jones

Mrs. Doris Adcock Jones, 91, of Temple passed away Monday, Oct. 1, 2012, at her residence. She was born Dec. 3, 1920, in Carroll County, Ga., the daughter of the late Mr. Wiley Lindsay Adcock and the late Mrs. Alice Emily Durrett Adcock. She loved helping at the beauty shop. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Temple.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Martin Jack Jones Sr.; grandson, Lindsey Oscar Jones; brother, Jack Adcock; and sister, Myra Adcock.

She was survived by her daughter, Myra Gail Jones of Temple; son and daughter-in-law Martin Jack and Jean Jones Jr. of Temple; sister, Agnes A. Powell of Temple; sister-in-law, Violet and Ray Newman of Austell; grandchildren, Darrell and Jennifer Jones Robinson of Temple, Linda and David Hudgins of Temple, and Wallace and Kathy Deese of Temple; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services were conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 3, at the Chapel of Jones-Wynn Funeral Home with the Rev. Corky Addison officiating. Interment followed in the Asbury Cemetery in Temple.

Isabelle Lovvorn

Isabelle Adams Lovvorn of Bowdon, Ga., died at her home on Sept. 23, 2012, at the age of 102. She was born on March 8, 1910, in Bowdon to the late Robert Reese “Bob” and Eula Entrekin Adams.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Joseph Edgar Lovvorn; grandson William Robert “Bill” Lovvorn Jr.; and her four sisters and two brothers.

She is survived by her children, William Robert “Bobby” Lovvorn of Bremen and Shirbie Lovvorn Lindsay of Bowdon and Opelika, Ala.; son-in-law Colonel Robert Lindsay of Opelika, Ala.; grandchildren, Lisa Lovvorn Horne (Wendell), Lynde Lovvorn Turner (Randy), Brandall Steven Lovvorn (Dana), Lucie Lovvorn Price (David), Vickie Harper Wood, Kathie Harper Morales (Tom), Gennifer Grizzard Costanzo (Don), Joseph Grant Grizzard (Clarissa), Alford Blake Grizzard (Janet), Paige Lindsay Sebring (David) and David Lindsay; 29 great-grandchildren; and 14 great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Lovvorn married her husband Joe in 1929. They lived in Carrollton for 47 years and returned to Bowdon in 1976, where she resided in the same house she was born in until her final day. For 102 years, she adored her family – keeping up with everyone until her final breath. Her recipes and exceptional cooking skills have been passed down through all generations. She exemplified a spirit of love and attributed her longevity to spending time with family members and eating three home-cooked meals a day.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26, at Shiloh United Methodist Church in Burwell.

Pallbearers were Brandall Lovvorn, Grant Grizzard, Al Grizzard, Bill Price, Ryan Wood, Benjamin Price, Blake Grizzard and Russell Austin.

Hazel Samples

Hazel Robinson Samples, 86, of Jasper, Ala., formerly of the Walker County area, passed away Friday, Sept. 28, 2012, at Ridgewood Health Care Center in Jasper, Ala.

Survivors include her son, Troy Saavedra (Katherine) Samples of Jasper, Ala.; sister, Sue Bell of Waco, Ga.; two grandchildren, Miles Samples and Paige Westphal; and one great-grandchild, Taylor Westphal.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Marcell Robinson and Julie Leadbetter Robinson; husband, James Field Samples; and a number of sisters and brothers.

Funeral services were held Monday, Oct. 1, 2012, at 7 p.m. at Collins-Burke Funeral Home with Minister Mackie Watts officiating. Graveside services were held Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Oakhill Cemetery in Jasper, Ala. Pallbearers were Miles Samples, Lee Westphal, Christopher Frost, Brett Robinson, Ricky Bell and Richard Bell.

Wylly J. Vaughn

Mrs. Wylly J. Vaughn, 78, of Carrollton, Ga., passed away Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2012, after an extended illness.

Mrs. Vaughn was born in Carrollton, Ga., on June 3, 1934, the daughter of the late John Beverly Warren and Wyolene Augusta Merrell Warren. She was a beloved elementary school teacher in Bowdon and Bremen, and later retired from the University of West Georgia in 1994, where she worked as librarian for 22 years. Mrs. Vaughn was a past president of the Mental Health Association and member of the Community Church of Bowdon.

She is survived by her husband, Nelson A. Vaughn; sons and daughters-in-law, Bob and Sonja Bagby of Carrollton, Bill and Melanie Bagby of Tallapoosa; grandsons, Joel and April Bagby and Robbie Bagby; great-grandson, Preston Robert Bagby; step-children, Angela T. Vaughn of Atlanta, John and Leanna Vaughn of Gastonia, N.C., and David N. Vaughn of Greenville, S.C.; step-grandchildren, Maria and John Toomey, Arthur Vaughn, Rebecca Vaughn, Grace Vaughn, Katherine Vaughn, Bethany Vaughn, Michelle Vaughn, Joel Vaughn, James Vaughn, Joseph Vaughn, Anna Vaughn, Daniel Vaughn and Victor Vaughn; step-great-grandchildren, Noah and Hannah Toomey; brother, John Beverly Warren Jr. and sister, Sylvia Horne, both of Atlanta, Ga.; and devoted nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 4, from the chapel of Almon Funeral Home with the Revs. Roy and Loomis Garrett and Dr. Keith Moore officiating.
