Ruby Agan

Ruby Jewell Posey Agan, 79, of Bremen, died Sunday, Sept. 23, 2012, in a local hospital.

Services were at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 23, at Hightower’s Funeral Home in Bremen with the Rev. Richard Brannon officiating. Burial followed in Union Hill Church cemetery.

Brenda Chandler

Brenda Elaine Chandler, 56, of Heflin, Ala., died Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012, at Emory University Hospital.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 24, 2012, at Dryden Funeral Home Chapel with the Revs. Jerry Irwin and Don Maddox, officiating. Burial followed in Hollywood Cemetery at Tallapoosa.

Survivors include her husband, Jason Chandler of Heflin, Ala.; daughter, Holly Richardson of Heflin, Ala.; sister, Jennifer Miller of Tallapoosa; brother, Randy Brooks of Tallapoosa, Ga.

Pallbearers were Skipper Bailey, Billy Bridges, Joey Entrekin, Andy McLendon, David Patterson and Jason Blackmon.

Mrs. Chandler was a native of Haralson County, Ga., and was employed by West Georgia Golf Company. She was a loving mother, wife, sister and friend.

She was preceded in death by her parents Edna and Willard Brooks and a husband, David Charles “Termite” Richardson.

Ruby Vinson Dollar, 78, of Waco, died Monday, Sept. 24, 2012, in Auburn, Ala.

Services were Friday, Sept. 28, 2012, at 1 p.m. at Hightower Funeral Home with Rev. Buddy Gentry officiating. Burial followed in Northview Cemetery in Cedartown.

Crystal Mae Herod, 24, of Bremen died Friday, Sept. 21, 2012, at her residence.

Nettie Hogan

Nettie Lee Sanders Hogan, 88, of Barnes Road, Bowdon, died Sept. 23, 2012.

Mrs. Hogan was born on Aug. 4, 1924, in Haralson County, Ga., the daughter of the late Jessie Sanders and Mattie Lou Hobbs Sanders.

She was a former employee of Rich’s and a member of Corinth Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, James Butler Hogan; brothers, Clifford, Lovie, Jack, Grady, Bill and Pink Sanders; sisters Sally Miller, Cora Blackmon and Bernice Agan.

Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Linda Joyce and Robert Langley of Buchanan; son and daughter-in-law, Larry Wayne and Glynn Hogan of Bowdon; brothers, James Robert “Bob” Sanders of Winston and Burl and Era Sanders of Bremen; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26, at the graveside at the Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Aaron Johnson officiating.

Carolyn Kellett, 77, of Bremen died Sunday, Sept. 23, 2012, at her residence.

Geneva Newman

Francis Geneva Newman, 86, of 106 Highway 120, Tallapoosa, Ga., died Sept. 17, 2012. Mrs. Newman was born Aug. 12, 1926, in Tallapoosa to the late Robert and Docie Chandler Williams.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Newman, and brother, Melvin Williams.

Mrs. Newman was a seamstress and supervisor for 43 years at the Hubbard Company. She was a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church and an avid gardener - she loved her flowers. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

Survivors include her sisters, Clara Nell Chandler of Bremen; brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and June Williams of Tallapoosa; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, at Miller Funeral Home with the Rev. Jimmy Bryan officiating. Music will be provided by Harold McWhorter. Pallbearers were Bobby Layton, Lenn Chandler, Larry Chandler, James Newman, Richard, Williams, Mike Argo and James Hughes.

Burial followed in Poplar Springs Baptist Church cemetery.

Clarence James Miller, 82, of Buchanan died Sunday, Sept. 23, 2012, in Tanner Medical Center/Carrollton, following an extended illness.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 26, at J. Hoyt Thomas Funeral Home with Pastor Barry Golden officiating. Burial followed in the Brannon Perryman Cemetery in Haralson County.

Julius Ellis

Mr. Julius Eugene Ellis, 85, of Tallapoosa, Ga., passed away Sept. 14, 2012. Mr. Ellis was born Aug. 12, 1927, in Buchanan, Ga., to the late Clarence and Grace Hill Ellis.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Zach Duffey, and brothers and sister-in-law, Merlyn Ellis and Jason and Emily Ellis.

Mr. Ellis served in the U. S. Army during World War II and again during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Tallapoosa First Baptist Church, worked for Lockheed and retired from Dixie Steel/Atlantic Building Systems. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and loved cutting wood.

Mr. Ellis is survived by his wife of 48 years, Sylvia Daniell Ellis of Tallapoosa; daughters and son-in-law, Gina and Ken Smazik of Kennesaw and Cheryl Sims of Fruithurst, Ala.; son and daughter-in-law, Butch and Pam Henderson of Carrollton; sisters and brothers-in-law, Charlotte and Clyde Bount of Lebanon, Pa., and Gladys and Howard Smith of Waco; brother and sisters-in-law, Merrill and Carolyn T. Ellis and Carolyn G. Ellis, all of Buncombe; grandchildren, Whitney H. and Micah Straub, Joey Mathews, Samantha Mathews and Taylor Mathews; great-granddaughter, Caidence Straub; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sept. 17, at Antioch Baptist Church with Brother Clyde Blount and the Rev. Tommy McGuire officiating. Music was provided by Blake Ellis and Autumn Coffman. Gentlemen serving as pallbearers were Joey Mathews, Taylor Mathews, Gary Ellis, Blake Ellis, Randy Ellis and Austin Coffman.

Interment followed in Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery with the Haralson County Veterans Association providing full military honors. The service concluded with Taps.

Joan Hart

Mrs. Joan LaNelle Hart, 68, of 300 Hart Rd., Tallapoosa, Ga., passed away Sept. 16, 2012. Mrs. Hart was born Sept. 25, 1943, in Heflin, Ala., to the late Russell and Lorene Hulsey Williamson.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Mr. J.R. Hart.

Joan loved her dogs. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, sitting on the porch, and listening to Christian music.

She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Keri and Chris Nolen of Tallapoosa and Terri and Chuck Spradlin of Lithia Springs, Ga.; son and daughter-in-law, Barry and Beth Hart of Decatur, Ga.; grandchildren, Josh Lyons of Tallapoosa, Alex and Charlie Hart of Decatur and Kinsey Spradlin of Lithia Springs and brother and sister-in-law, Wayne and Betty Williamson of Carrollton, Ga.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sept. 19, at Providence Baptist Church with Dr. Mason Bush and the Rev. Ricky Shirley officiating. Music was provided by Donny and Brenda Johnson, Angela Moore and Brandt Howell. Pallbearers serving were Ray Hulsey, Ronald Joe Hulsey, Randy Holdbrooks, Justin Holdbrooks, Vince Benefield, Michael Clayton, Benjie Miller and John Hutcheson.

Interment followed in Providence Church Cemetery with the Rev. Alton Stamey officiating.

Floyd Hutson

Mr. Floyd D. Hutson, 72, of 2611 Steadman Rd., Tallapoosa, Ga., passed away Sept. 19, 2012. Mr. Hutson was born Aug. 25, 1940, in Carroll County to the late Nell and Mary Pentigrew Hutson.

Mr. Hutson retired as a saw operator with Quality Furniture in Tallapoosa. He was a proud supporter of Haralson County 4-H and loved his family.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Dorothy Roberts Hutson; daughters and sons-in-law, Karen and Tony Steed of Bowdon Junction, Ga., and Merl and Jeff Hunt of Villa Rica, Ga.; son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Robin Hood Hutson of Tallapoosa; grandchildren, Hayley Hunt, Helen Hunt, Larry Steed, Austin Steed, Jimmy Hutson, Rabon Hutson, Ethan Hutson and Levi Hutson; and great-grandson, Elijah Hutson.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Sept. 21, at Miller Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Mason Bush and the Rev. Randy Robinson officiating. Music was provided by Katie Williams, Karen Boling, and June and Sandra Walker. Pallbearers serving were Jimmy Hutson, Rabon Hutson, Ethan Hutson, Austin Steed, Larry Steed and Tony Steed. Honorary pallbearers were Levi Hutson, Elijah Hutson, Hayley Hunt and Helen Hunt.

Interment followed in Steadman Baptist Church Cemetery.

Alan Jordan

Mr. Robert Alan Jordan, 22, of 367 Pope Lake Rd., Tallapoosa, Ga., passed away Aug. 30, 2012.

Alan was born Sept. 7, 1989, in Carrollton, Ga., to Robbie and Julie Jordan. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Robert Jordan and Geraldine Sisk; aunts, JoAnne Parmley and Terri Greenwood; uncle, Steve Feltrinelli; and cousin, Hanna Jordan.

Alan was a 2008 graduate of Haralson County High School. He was a proud member of the Marching Rebel Band, where he played on the drum line. He attended Georgia Highlands College for two years and then West Central, where he received his commercial truck driving license. Alan was employed by River City Propane in Tallapoosa.

Alan was a true family man and spent most of his free time watching his little brother, Wyatt, play football and baseball, fishing with his daddy and brothers, camping, traveling to civil war battle fields. His favorite was Gettysburg, Pa. One of Alan’s favorite memories was walking Pickets Charge in Gettysburg with his family.

Alan especially loved his church and youth group at Bethany Baptist Church in Tallapoosa. When he was too old for Bible School, he volunteered for outside activities. His favorite trip every year was Super Wow with his youth group. Alan was saved during a Super Wow trip, where he came to know Jesus as his personal savior.

He is survived by his parents, Robbie and Julie Jordan; grandparents, Gary Alan and Jane Wright; great-grandmothers, Burnell Parmley and Polly Wright, all of Tallapoosa; sister, Sarah Jordan of Buchanan; brothers, Tanner Jordan and Wyatt Jordan of Tallapoosa; aunts, Jean Feltrinelli, Judy and Ron Robinson, Kathy and Johnny Pike, Barbra and Victor Davenport, Madaline and Harvey Cates, Ruth Folds, Lena Morgan, Laurie Fountain and Alicia and Jaycen Simpson; uncles, Tony Jordan, Clyde and Mary Jordan, James Jordan, Charlie and Linda Reeves and Jerry Edwards; special cousins, Helen and Eric Nehl, Brooks, Melissa and Elliott Robinson, Brian Finley, Tonya and Gary Darnell, Hunter, Trey and Kaysten Finley, Kaitlyn and Kyle Biggers, T.J. and Brantley Jordan and Colton Jordan.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sept. 2, 2012, at Bethany Baptist Church with one of Alan’s best friends and mentor – the Rev. Kevin Ayers officiating. Pallbearers serving were Tony Jordan, Jeff Brooks, David Brown, Kyle Kiser, Johnny Pike and Ken Lawler. Honorary pallbearers were Greg Davis, Bethany Youth Group, T.J. Jordan, Hunter Finley, Kyle Biggers, Trey Finley, Brian Finley, Ronnie Ridley, Dennis Ridley and the River City Propane family.

Interment followed in Hollywood Cemetery. Alan was laid to rest next to his Aunt, JoAnne Parmley, who was very close to his heart as a little boy.

Judy Thompson

Mrs. Judy Payne Thompson, 47, of 1849 County Rd. 57, Muscadine, Ala., passed away Sept. 16, 2012. Mrs. Thompson was born Oct. 2, 1964, in Cedartown, Ga.

Mrs. Thompson was a member of Beulah Baptist Church. She loved to fish and loved Alabama football.

She is survived by her husband of 30 years, Gary Thompson; daughters, Jennifer Morgan and Bree Thompson; grandson, Hunter Morgan; parents, Ralph and Joanne Payne; sister and brother-in-law, Cindy and Curtis Smith; and brother and sister-in-law, Johnny and Debbie Payne, all of Muscadine.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Sept. 19, at Beulah Baptist Church with the Rev. Donald Leggett officiating. Music was provided by Steven Bentley and Randy Tillman. Pallbearers serving were Robby Brown, Kevin Brown, Judy Brown, Tracy Lambert, Jason Thompson, Shane Payne, Michael Roberts and Shannon Roberts.

Interment followed in Beulah Church Cemetery with the Rev. Wayne Pike officiating.
