During the Bremen City Council’s regular meeting Monday, Sept. 17, the city approved a motion to rename Tallapoosa Street East.

According to the council, when railroad company Norfolk Southern decided to close the North Georgia Avenue crossing, the street was redesigned to make a curve into Tallapoosa Street East rather than come to a stop at the railroad track where the crossing had previously been. Tallapoosa Street East is the road that currently runs in front of the City of Bremen Public Safety Complex.

Now that the two streets are one continuous street, the city voted to rename the entire street Georgia Avenue North.

In other business, the city approved a motion to amend the zoning ordinance, specifically Section 513 in regards to provisions for the C-2 (Commercial-2) district.

The amendment added the language “Medical Offices and Health Clinics” to the section, which outlines zoning for “Neighborhood and Hwy. Services” in the business district. This will allow medical offices and health clinic businesses to move in to C-2 district areas.

The council also approved the reappointment of Dee Dorch and Meschelle Rickett to the Library Board. Their terms will be retroactive to July 1, 2012, and will end June 30, 2015. The council also appointed Richard Wagner to the Library Board. His term will also be retroactive to July 1, 2012, and will end June 30, 2015.
