The annual City-Wide Yard Sale will be held in Tallapoosa on Saturday, Oct. 6. Yard sales will be spread all over town, where scores of bargain-hunting visitors will come from miles around to get a good deal.

Selling starts officially at 8 a.m., but early risers will be out looking for good buys at the crack of dawn. The sales start shutting down when the buyers thin out, the sellers sell out, or “give out.”

The Tallapoosa Business Association sponsors the annual event, which attracts local citizens as well as out-of-towners, according to Randy Sanders, president of the TBA. There is no fee to hold a yard sale at your house. Residents are encouraged to participate; however, if you do not wish to set up a yard sale at your home and want use a location in town, you must ask permission from the property owner before setting up.

Free maps of sale locations may be obtained at City Hall, Allen’s Florist, The Pea Patch, A Touch of Heaven Beauty Salon and the library. If you want your sale to be listed on the map, you must pay your $5 fee at Allen’s Florist by Oct. 1.

President Sanders urged everyone holding a sale to make plenty of direction signs, especially if you live off the “beaten path.” Have plenty of change on hand for everyone’s convenience, Sanders urged, but most of all, be careful on the streets as there will be excited adults and children walking and driving.

Neither the Possum Pickin’ bluegrass music concert nor the bean supper will be held this year during the yard sale, as has been done in past years, according to officials, because it simply makes for a very long and tiring day.
