Following a busy week of action, Mother Nature decided it was time for a break.

After enduring a few different episodes of inclement weather Saturday at the Carroll County Recreation Department, it was ultimately decided to cut the Central Invitational a little short.

With host Central High School and Bremen both on hand locally, Lady Lion coach Jimmy LeBlanc and Lady Blue Devil coach Amy Pointer both got what they wanted from the two-day tourney — with the goal being to face some strong competition.

Bremen was 3-0 for the Invitational when play was stopped during its second of three scheduled games Saturday, defeating Douglas County (15-0) and Central (7-6) on Friday and knocking off Chapel Hill (4-2) early Saturday. The Lady Blue Devils, now 10-1 on the year, were playing Shiloh when they were pulled off the field Saturday afternoon.

Bremen had played every day since Wednesday, which included a long road trip to Columbus and then multiple games Friday and Saturday, and Pointer said it may have been a good thing to call it a day when they did with a big Region 5-AA showdown looming at Heard County on Tuesday.

“We were tired. You could definitely tell. Our kids, they don’t make mistakes. And they were tired and making a few [Saturday] that they wouldn’t normally make. So you know your kids well enough to know that when they’re physically exhausted, bad things happen,” Pointer said.

Central defeated Alexander in a 4-3 contest on Friday before falling to Bremen in the one-run contest. The Lady Lions also shut out Douglas County, 13-0, on Saturday.

LeBlanc could not be reached for comment Saturday evening.

Prep Cross Country

The Carrollton High School cross country team competed at Berry College on Saturday morning, with the girls finishing in 13th place out of 28 teams and the Trojans capturing 16th place out of 38 teams in the Class A-AAAA race in Rome.

Rounding out the girls runners were Emily Adams (23:04), Zavannah Brown (23:23), Crystal Ruiz (23:41), Elizabeth Harrison (25:27), Haley Webb (25:41), Madison Wright (26:11) and Ashley Adams (26:17).

On the guys side, Cassidy Emory (18:50) led the way, followed by Michael Crowder (19:17), Will Gordy (19:22), Anthony Martinez (19:39), Eli Payne (19:39), North Carter (19:41) and Nathan Trippe (19:48).

Carrollton will play host to the Carrollton Orthopaedic Clinic Meet on Saturday at 8 a.m.
