J. Calvin Tibbs, pastor of Kingdom Dominion Church, is attending the Billion Soul Summit in Indonesia through July 29 to promote Christianity in the nation with the largest Muslim population in the world.
The trip came after Tibbs attended a “synergize” conference with his wife in Orlando hosted by Billion Soul Network co-founder Dr. James O. Davis. Davis is a co-founder of Cutting Edge Ministries, which together with the Billion Soul Network is attempting to spread Christianity throughout the world through global churches.
“While we were there we were just inundated, overwhelmed, blessed with the connections of things that are available to the body of Christ,” Tibbs said. “He broke denominational barriers and I literally saw the merging of the Body of Christ with one man who brought various people from I think 1,700 different ministry types there representing probably 100 different denominations, and they weren’t divided. That’s the thing that got me the most.”
Among the principles taught by Davis are global learning centers across the world, one of which Tibbs and Kingdom Dominion Church agreed to help fund in Indonesia.
“He invited us to Indonesia to this church that seats about 46,000 people in its sanctuary every Sunday morning so we could see what we were wanting to help build through our church here,” Tibbs said. “It really will be Dr. Davis taking me under his wing and telling me, ‘Watch this, bring it back.’”
Referred to as the “Indonesia Billion Soul Summit,” the conference is taking place at Bethany Church in Surabaya, Indonesia, and is being streamed live worldwide. The international summit will bring together more than 10,000 overseers, superintendents, elected officers, leading evangelicals, networkers, strategists, unreached peoples, experts, missionaries, seminary and Bible college presidents, evangelists, and leaders of church fellowships to synergize resources and relationships.
Tibbs was looking forward to seeing the impact of Christianity on the 96 percent of the world that is outside of the borders of North America and models for Christian teachings that he can bring back to Villa Rica.
“I want to literally soak up the thinking where it’s not unusual to have a church that size, whereas here it is unusual,” Tibbs said. “I’m not saying I’m trying to build a megachurch here, but I’m trying to get influence for the kingdom of God. I’m trying to learn from some people who are highly effective in getting that done so we can influence the community more with the gospel of the kingdom.”
Since its inception in 2001, the Billion Soul Network has centered itself around pastors and local churches, beginning their efforts with the statement, “The most important person in every community on earth is not the governor, the congressman, the senator or even the president. The most important person in every community is the local, Spirit-filled pastor. As goes the pastor, so goes the community.”
Well-versed in the importance of community involvement, Tibbs began Kingdom Dominion Church in a small community center in Villa Rica in 2008. Nearly five years later, Tibbs and the Kingdom Dominion Church family are now located in a free-standing facility in Tri-County Plaza on Highway 78 with 180 members. And now, they have also been added to the list of 400,000 churches under the Billion Soul Network umbrella.
“We need help; we need builders,” Tibbs said. “I mean help in terms of people who are willing to help forge that mission. We need people who want to do more than just go to church, we want people who want to be the church. If that’s you, we’re looking for you.”
Kingdom Dominion Church has already begun planning to build "daylight centers" across the country as part of the mission Tibbs learned through the teachings of Davis. These centers would pick people up from shelters who would normally wander the streets during the day and bring them to these centers staffed with 10 or 12 people who would help them with everything from psychological evaluations to job placement to fitness.
“We’re specifically targeting people who aren’t schizophrenic or have acute medical challenges, but people who had something happen to put them in the situation where they’re at today,” Tibbs said. “Our goal of the daylight centers is to recondition their thinking and get them back to what they were placed on the planet to do and give them viability. We’ll then assign them life coaches who will stay with them as a disciple and they’ll report to those people once they get jobs. If we can get them back to viability, this becomes the very group we can impart the revelation of Jesus and send them abroad or they can be a blessing right here.”
