Additional charges have been filed against a Clem man who has been accused of October 2011 killing of his son-in-law.

The Carroll County Superior Court grand jury indicted 68-year-old Clyde Puckett, as well as others, on charges including racketeering, insurance fraud, arson, theft and operating a chop shop.

Also named in the bill of indictment was Karmen Ann Barber, the wife of Michael Shane Barber, the victim in Puckett’s murder case. The deceased is also listed in these charges.

Karmen Barber had not yet been arrested on the charges, so an order for her arrest and setting bond at $50,000 was filed.

James Slade was also named in the bill of indictment, which accuses the Barber family of operating a chop shop.

Puckett is charged with shooting and killing the victim in his home last fall, a case that will go to jury trial Aug. 27. He was arraigned Feb. 1 for felony murder, malice murder and aggravated assault. In that case, he will be represented by public defender Shikera Turner.

Assistant District Attorney Anne Allen, who is handling the Puckett case for the state, denied comment because of the pending investigation, but said the Carrollton Police Department had been investigating the racketeering and fraud allegations before last year’s shooting.

The accused in this case are scheduled to be arraigned July 10 by Judge John T. Simpson.

Also indicted by the grand jury in an unrelated case was George Munoz Jr., who was indicted on accusations of arson in the first degree and a criminal attempt to commit a felony.

Munoz, 29, is scheduled to be arraigned July 16 by Judge Dennis Blackmon.
