Ernest Watson Smith, 88, of Carrollton died Monday, Dec. 12, 2011. He was born Jan. 14, 1923, in Villa Rica, Ga., the son of the late Clarence Grady Smith and Vera May Carter Smith.

Mr. Smith served his country in WWII for the Marine Corps. He later retired from Carpenter’s Local Union #225 and was a member of Carrollton North Congregational of Jehovah’s Witness.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Philip Ernest Smith; sister, Clara Haralson; and his brothers, Robert Smith, Bill Smith and Cecil Smith.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Gentry Smith; son and daughter-in law, Victor and Peggy Smith of Summerville, S.C.; sister, Jackie Smith of Temple; and brother, Larry Smith of Mableton.

A memorial service will be Saturday, Dec. 17, at 2 p.m. from Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday from 4 to 8 p.m.
