Louise Smoot Fitts passed away peacefully at home on Oct. 2, 2011. She was born in the Trap Hill community of Wilkes County, N.C., on Feb. 25, 1915, the ninth of 13 children born to William Gideon Smoot and Carrie Mae Gentry Smoot. She was predeceased by her parents, and 11 of her 12 siblings.

She is survived by her sister, Blanche S. Rankin of Millsboro, Del.

She was also predeceased by her husband, Robert S. Fitts III, and her two sons, Richard D. Fitts of Martinsville, Va., and Robert S. Fitts IV of Carrollton, Ga.

She is also survived by her daughter, Nancye Fitts Parker, and her daughters-by-marriage, Christel Fitts of Stuart, Va., and Nan Fitts of Carrollton, Ga. Additionally she is survived by seven grandchildren: Jennifer Fitts Fain, of Stuart, Va.; D. Ellen Parker of Danville; Tandy Parker Gaffney of Danville; and Louise P. Hayes of Dinwiddie County, Va.; Seth Fitts, and Rob Fitts, both of Whitesburg, Ga.; and Carrie Fitts of Carrollton, Ga. She is also survived by nine great-grandchildren.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, devoted aunt, a loyal friend, and a faithful servant to her God. She was a member of Floral Hills United Methodist Church in Ringgold, Va.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 5, 2011, from 11 a.m. until 12 noon at Townes Funeral Home followed immediately by the funeral service. A private burial service, for the family, will follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Salvation Army in her memory.
