While it was not the ideal option, Nathan Horsley was left little choice but to postpone today’s regularly-scheduled Class A Duals to Monday with a 10 a.m. start.

The Bowdon High School wrestling coach was informed that all extra-curricular activities for Carroll County Schools would be postponed for the weekend, leaving Monday as the only viable option to satisfy both the county’s ruling and the Georgia High School Association’s deadline to have the Duals completed.

With Monday being a school day, Horsley said it will be a difficult act to juggle, but something he is hopeful of running as smoothly as possible, given the circumstances.

“That’s going to be the real tough and bad part about it. With (the GHSA), we’ve got to have it done by Monday,” Horsley said. “So, you know, we could probably do it after school, but geographically, our area is so big when you’ve got Turner County and Gordon Lee having to travel. We’ve got to run it during the school day.

“If we were all close, it wouldn’t be that bad. But like I said, with the geographic area, we’re going to have to figure out ways of trying to run it during school and go through that headache.”

Horsley said all seven teams will still be able to attend the event, which will take place in Bowdon’s new gymnasium.

The tough part, though, will be finding workers. Since school employees and parent volunteers usually make up the majority of the workforce for such a tournament, it may get a bit tricky in that regard.

“When you’re used to having school employees take up money and all that kind of stuff, they’re all going to be working during the day,” Horsley said.

“Then you’ve got parents that usually volunteer their time for Friday night and Saturday. Now they’re going to be working. So they may have to give up time at work to come here and volunteer their time. That’s going to be the tough part there. You know, finding all the people behind the scenes that you’re not used to seeing.”

On the Class AAA scene, the Carrollton and Central wrestling teams also had their Saturday starts pushed back to Monday at Southeast Whitfield High School. The Class AAA Duals will begin at 9 a.m. on Monday.

Trojan coach Mike Mason said the two-day wait doesn’t change much for his guys.

“No. Not a thing,” Mason said. “It doesn’t change anything because nobody’s been able to practice. So that’ll help out. But nothing changes, as far as our plans. It just postpones it.”

From the mat to the hardwood, nearly all of the local basketball action was postponed, as well.

Along with all the county schools being postponed, Carrollton’s scheduled games with Douglas County were also canceled. Due to scheduling conflicts the rest of the season, Lady Trojan coach Shon Thomaston said they may just have to cancel the games altogether.

Oak Mountain Academy was the only local team that is playing today, as OMA athletic director and girls basketball coach Bob Honeycutt said OMA will play at Griffin Christian today, beginning with the girls game at 3 p.m.

As far as Haralson County hosting Cleburne County (Ala.) goes, Rebelette coach Cindy Moore said a decision was to be made by 10 a.m. today.

“Right now, it’s not looking good. But we’re going to wait and see how the roads and everything are (Saturday),” Moore said.
