The city will break ground for its Public Safety and Municipal Court building Tuesday at 11:30 a.m.
The complex will be located one-half mile south of Interstate 20 on Georgia Highway 92 (Fairburn Road) on the west side, according to City Manager Bill Osborne.
Parking will be available for anyone who would like to attend, he said.
There will be a short ceremony with brief speeches from Mayor Mickey Thompson, Police Chief Chris Womack, Municipal Court Judge Keith Rollins and a representative of New South Construction, which is constructing the project, Osborne said.
The project is being funded with a $23 million general obligation bond issue, according to Osborne. The contract with New South is for $20,700,000 and the purchase of 21 acres of land for the complex cost approximately $2.1 million.
The main building measures 70,000 square feet. An adjacent building will house a firing range and an 18,000 square-foot training room that will also be used for community meetings.
Work is expected to begin right away, Osborne said.
