A 71-year-old Tallapoosa woman was killed Thursday morning when her car struck a parked city of Carrollton truck.

Linda Bridges was traveling on Highway 27 north of Georgia 113 in Carrollton around 11 a.m. Thursday, Georgia State Patrol Public Information Officer Gordy Wright said. A city truck was parked in the right lane against the curb and was hit from the rear by Bridges’ 2007 Honda Civic.

The city truck, a 1994 GMC Topkick, was parked while workers were picking up debris. The truck had its four-way flashers and strobe lights operational at the time of the accident, Wright said.

A worker, Stephen Valdez, of Carrollton, was in the bed of the truck at the time and was taken to be checked for injuries at Tanner Medical Center. No one was in the cab of the truck at the time of the crash.

Bridges was alone in the car, and she was wearing her seat belt.
