The West Georgia Tech softball team picked up its first win of the season as they split Sunday’s doubleheader with Georgia Gwinnett with a 7-5 win in the nightcap after dropping the opener 4-2.

The Golden Knights (1-3) got behind early in the first game going down 2-0 and couldn’t ever get themselves back in the game.

Courtney Braswell’s 2-for-3 day along with Robin Mitchell’s 2-for-2 effort with an RBI led WGTC at the plate and Morgan Anderson worked four innings in relief giving up just one run on one hit.

In the second game the Golden Knights broke a 4-4 tie in the fifth as they put up two runs to take the 6-4 lead they would never give up.

Mitchell continued her strong performance at the plate going 2-for-3 — and 4-for-5 on the day — to go along with six other Golden Knights that picked up hits in Game 2.

WGTC will return to the field Saturday to take on Andrew College and Chattahoochee Valley Community College in Phoenix City, Ala.
