Mr. Vernard Eugene Harper of Bowdon, Georgia, passed away on December 28, 2012. He was 79.

Mr. Harper was born on August 17, 1933, in Heard County, Georgia, to the late William Richard and Mamie Leola Harper. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army where he served in the Korean War and was retired from Southwire where he worked as a dispatcher.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Grady, Earnest, Leroy, Donald and Lester Harper; and his sisters, Inez Parmer and Berthell Crane.

Survivors include his wife, Flora Harper; his sons and daughters-in-law, Phil Harper, Steve and Donna Harper, and Mike and Machell Harper; his grandchildren, Jacob Harper and his wife Stephanie, Bryson Harper and his wife Alyssia, Justin Strickland, Zach Strickland, Shanda Harper, Cayce Harper, Dylan Harper and Caleb Harper; and his sisters, Eunice Parmer and Dura Toole.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 31, 2012, at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Rainwater Funeral Home. Bro. Darnell Teal and Bro. Gerald Rogers will officiate. Pallbearers will be Jeff Harper, Rodney Toole, Larry Harper, Johnny Harper, Roger Harper and Wendell Parmer. Interment will follow at Shiloh Baptist Cemetery in Graham, Alabama.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, December 30, 2012, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.
