The Lady Cougar volleyball team’s season came to an end Wednesday evening, in the first round of the AAAA state playoffs. Alexander traveled to Chamblee in Atlanta, Ga. and lost the best-of-five match in four games.

AHS fell to Chamblee in the first game 19-25, before rebounding in the second game 25-22. However, Chamblee wanted it a little more according to Lady Cougar Coach Rikki Baxter, and they took the next two games 15-25 and 19-25.

“Overall we played well but we just go outplayed,” Baxter said. “The girls did what they were supposed to do, they played aggressive and communicated. We just got beat.

Alexander this year was led by eight seniors, who Baxter credits with helping the team achieve more than was expected by outside viewers.

“People didn’t think we could get as far as we did at the beginning of the season,” Baxter said. “These eight seniors will be missed next year. I will miss the humor and the way they carried on with each other. They always made me laugh.”

As for the future, Alexander will turn to junior Morgan Nicholson. Nicholson was playing in her second varsity season as an outside hitter. She was the only non-senior in the starting lineup.

“She stepped and executed hits well,” Baxter said. “She will be a leader on the court.
