She was born in Carroll County on October 1, 1928, the daughter of the late Lonnie Bragg and the late Ida Gertrude Carden Bragg. She lived her entire lifetime in the Carroll and Douglas county area and worked in the textile industry for forty-eight years. She retired from Jean’s Hosiery Mill with twenty-five years of service. She was a member of the Ephesus Baptist Church, Calvin Phillips Sunday School Class, the Morning Glory’s Women’s Group, Anna Club, Saints Alive Club and the Gems & Jewells Seniors at Ephesus Baptist. She was also a devoted homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Fred Hitchcock; a grandson, Jonathan Ward; two brothers, Louis Bragg and William Bragg; and three sisters, Marueen Bragg, Juanita Bragg and Marie Bragg.
Survivors include her daughters, Patricia Stansell and her husband, Ervin, of Villa Rica, Jane Bloom and her husband, Donald, of Villa Rica, and Jean Ward and her husband, Jerry, of Winston; one sister, Myrtle Nunnelly of Douglasville; four grandchildren, six great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, December 16, 2012, at 2 p.m. from the chapel of the J. Hoyt Thomas Funeral Home with Dr. Billy Godwin and Mr. Calvin Phillips officiating. Music will be provided by Dr. & Mrs. Billy (Miriam) Godwin. Pallbearers will be Mike Willoughby, Jimmy Hitchcock, Dale Ward, Jerry Hallman, Stephen Durrough and Billy Joe Nunnelly. Interment will follow in Melrose Hills Memorial Cemetery in Paulding County.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday evening, December 15, 2012, from 5-8 p.m.
