The Times-Georgian on Wednesday announced the launch of a special effort to assist unemployed residents of Carroll County during the current economic downturn.

“We know things are difficult for many – too many,” said Leonard Woolsey, publisher of the Times-Georgian. “We are just looking for an opportunity to reach out and help those in need.”

The effort includes a free listing for those seeking employment and daily delivery of the Times-Georgian at a dramatically discounted rate.

Under the special program, qualified individuals can place into the Times-Georgian an eight-line listing outlining their qualifications and type of employment they seek for up to two weeks at no charge.

“We know many job sites today require a fee and might require a family to move,“ said Woolsey. “We’d just like to make sure everyone fully explores the employment opportunities in Carroll County without any out-of-pocket expense to them.”

The second opportunity the Times-Georgian is offering to those currently unemployed is the ability to receive the newspaper at home for 13 weeks for only $5.

“Coupons are a tremendous way to stretch a family’s budget,” said Woolsey. “Our Sunday paper alone can contain hundreds of dollars of coupons and price savings on everyday items.”

The regular price for a 13-week subscription is $36.

According to Woolsey, the project is going to be an ongoing program for the community until the economic storm passes.

“Many of our subscribers and readers have supported us in the past,” said Woolsey. “We need to make sure we are there to give back in their time of need.”

To qualify for either program, individuals must present valid proof of unemployment (separation papers/unemployment benefits) as well as a Georgia driver’s license.

For more information, individuals are encouraged to contact the Times-Georgian at 770-834-6631.

Why? Nobody reads the Carrollton Paper anymore, you won't cover important events like the one that happen last Sat Nov. 14th. Had charity ride for the Crawford Family --280 Bikes (most Carrollton ever seen @ one time)---Raised over $31000.00(more money to come in 12/05 from Atlanta area Hooters) for a flood victim family that lost everything including a Son. That would have been around 250 more papers sold from new stand-- but NO nothing was in the paper---NO one wanted to buy it because local events of interest to local was not in there. I'll keep my $5.00 for food.

It would help more to post the jobs online.

Wow, that is wonderful. Forget the negative comments - anything to help a person out should be respected and appreciated. Thanks, I've given the info already to several unemployed friends.

Isn't the Times-Georgian in financial trouble? Yeah, slashing your subscription prices is going to help. Besides, the paper's full of ads, puff pieces, lots typos and/or grammatical errors, copies with smeared ink, etc. Not to mention, the delivery is horrible. A discounted subscription? Wow! What a deal! It looks like you should be paying Carroll County residents to read your paper!

I am glad that the Times-Georgian is being pro- active on the problem of uemployment but they need to change their announcement to businesses in their classifieds that says "Are the Low unemployment rates making it hard for you to fill positions". The unemployment rates are not low and keep growing.Ihave noticed this ad for a long time.

I understand that they want to advetise their services to businesses but it is a little usympathetic to the unemployed.
