I HAVE LIVED IN TEMPLE FOR 32 YEARS ALL MY LIFE AND IT IS A CRYING AND A SHAME TO READ THIS. THERE ARE RACIST HERE IN TEMPLE BLACK AND WHITE, AND I AM A BLACK MAN. I THINK THAT PEOPLE BRING THEIR PERSONAL FEELINGS (OUTSIDE OF CITY BUSINESS) INTO THEIR POLITICAL LIFE. THAT IS TRULY A CHILDISH MOVE!! PUTTING FLIERS OUT CRYING ABOUT WHAT SOMEONE CALLED YOU IS CHILDISH AND CALLING SOMEONE OUT OF THEIR NAME IS THE SAME. THE CITY OF TEMPLE HAS GREAT ISSUES THAN GROWN CHILDREN CRYING OUT FOR ATTENTION, GET A DOG!!! I AM ANGRY ABOUT THE THINGS I HAVE HEARD AND READ AND SEEN COMING FROM THE TOWN I LOVE TO CALL HOME. THE MAYOR ELECTIONS HAS BEEN A MESS THROUGH SINCE THE RETIRING OF FORMER MAYOR HENDRIX. WHEN HE WAS IN OFFICE TEMPLE WAS HOME AND SINCE HE RETIRED TEMPLE HAS FELT A PLACE TO VISIT THAN A PLACE TO LIVE. IT IS TIME FOR A CHANGE ANS I AM ONE WILLING TO STAND UP AND MOVE FORWARD WITH THAT CHANGE, I WILL BE RUNNING IN THE NEXT Temple CITY COUNCIL RUN-OFF. I have watched the antics of these people Harmon, Waldens during this election and wouldn't vote for them even if they were the only ones running....Mrs. Walden has crossed the line .... fabricated...made up.....she is the racist.....hope the minorities in Temple picket the famed "Kingsbrooke Estates" where if you are of color you WILL NOT be allowed to rent...one only needs to ask...why would Mrs. Walden pull this stunt....to obtain a little sympathy...but I can promise her folks think the whole thing is as transparent as the wind......Mr. Simmons has a right to his opinion and to hand out whatever he wishes....just as she herself has done this campaign...so why is she complaining....turn about is fair play.....when my wife was mugged on vacation three years ago..I promise she didn't call multiple tv stations, radio stations, government agencies and a dirty dozen bunch of buddies....even folks at church yesterday were talking about it...and its ain't good.....think I might E-mail my opinion to the DA....Mrs. Walden should be arrested....pretty much looks to me like Harmon, Walden are scared that folks are taking Temple back....oh and one more thing since I've now had time to study Mrs. Walden's challenge on Ford more closely...clearly as loud and crude as she has become...were she to have really thought Mayor Ford had misappropriated and city funds she would not have waited until month of campaigning to bring up....agree with blogger call DA......after all its not like he doesn't know who they are....they call his office routinely for nothing important....this is important...Good job Mr. Simmons...and I call on you to lead our community in getting acountability....watched all you folks this weekend huddling like you have done something great...endorsing a lie....laughing handling out candy while portraying a lie....no thanks....VOTE

Poor Mrs. Walden.....but ain't no truth to it...think about the simple facts....first Mrs. Walden forgot to mention that this is the exact same letter Mr. Simmons handed out in 2005..she had no problem with it then because he and she was on the same side....but think about the timeline on this incident....its 1pm in afternoon, moms dads,kids in school....but she gets assaulted...no witnesses...says she was kicked in face by an unknown assailant who wore boots, but her injuries are not reflective of this, she drives to local store where her friends take photo's, then off to the hospital..but there was time for her to think, call 2 tv stations, 2 radio stations, 2 newspapers, Secretary of states office, the DA and don't forget all her buddies who appeared at the hopital with her....by 4:30 she was being interviewed by TV....planned, executed, and falsely reported....Mr. Simmons is not a racist...remember he was called a racial slur by x-mayor Harmon...who did apologize...and that silly statement about Honorable Mayor Ford calling someone a slur...was provided by a disgruntled employee who resigned rather than it be revealed he had porn on his laptop..crediability zero....one need to look at rental property the walden's own to know who the racist is....smart move our Chief hand this baby over to sheriff...and I hope every voter in Temple contacts the sheriffs office and the DA demanding a full investigation of Mrs. Waldens accusations and that charges for a hate crime follow.....she made it up.....for political reasons....just like the silly cop told on TV..I fought for my country in active duty....and my American beliefs have nothing to do with color...don't be too sure Mrs. Simmons was lying about Mrs. Walden.....Mr. Simmons has witnesses..

two elections ago we had a horse beat up...now this.....enough too about Honorable Rick Ford..you can not produce one piece of printed material nor one person who can state he has done anything ugly during this campaign....he as well as Mann, and Bivins have done so also....nothing like what the usuual "suspects" have done....including slandering folks not public officials...even trying to get someones family member to write or say something ugly about them....ha..ha....ICKY....so bottom line is simple....the fear over the election must be on Harmon, Walden and Estawackos part to condone this false accusation....and not one person in Temple that I have spoke too even believes it...hope Mr.Simmons puts spotlight on this...she should be charged....join me in callin our DA....at 770 830-2171..and lets call for action.....and everyone who participated with her should also be accountable....

I hate to think anyone would think Mrs. Walden made this up. It breaks my heart to see and hear the victim of a crime being farther victimized. Have you ever noticed that some of the worst crimes such as rape and molestation are often NOT reported because of the doubt and criticism and shame that the victim faces from people who DONT want to see the truth? And we wonder why victims don't come forward when crimes have been committed against them..well here is your answer. At some point someone will talk or brag or her purse will turn up and possibly fingerprints can be found..Temple is too small for someone not to know something. I hope the person or people are caught and then this woman can get the justice she deserves.

PARDON MY INTERRUPTION! People in Temple this is not about race, sex, creed, religion or any thing else except ignorance and greed for power between incompetent people out for their own agenda. I think Mr. Simmons is lying about Mrs. Walden calling him a nigger because if she said it he should have nipped that in the bud right when it happen. So Mr. Simmons stop running around like a little b#$%h. On the other hand, I don't believe Mrs. Walden either, not trying to be funny, but I think when she bent down to pick up her flyers she saw her shadow and thought it was a black man standing over her and fainted and hit her face on the ground. As for the other political leaders in Temple, Ford and his do-boys.....they are who we thought they were.

Wow, Fraud is cruising around town looking a little nervous right now. Could it be because they have one of his lackeys at the PD questioning him perhaps? Got an unmarked police car sitting out front, wonder why?

Did anyone notice the black female standing behind Mrs. Walden? Some of Mrs. Walden's family members are bi-racial. As for the use of this alleged racial slur uttered by Mrs. Walden, I personally can attest that she didn't use such a word. I was present the night of that council meeting. Mrs. Walden simply stated to Simmons, you are too old to be up there, simple as that. Even Ford supporters present at the meeting even stated that she did not use such a word. Simmons' created this document solely in retaliation to circumvent the official GBI report alleging FORD used a racial slur to describe his feelings of former Rec Director James Bailey. Simmons does not appear to be concerned with RACE, only to prevent another candidate from obtaining office. Simmons still chooses to support FORD after the official GBI report was posted and sworn affidavits from city employees stated FORD used a racial slur. Why does he choose to support FORD? Simmons did not have any witnesses to corroborate what Walden allegedly said. Another instance of using public office for personal gain. Simmons actually had that audacity to post his City issued cellular phone number on this document for citizens to contact him. Taxpayers are paying for Simmons to campaign for an office he is not even a candidate in. As for a first amendment right, Simmons forgets a simple fact. Free speech and freedom of press is a god given right, but if the use of this "speech and press" are solely created to entice anger and hatred amongst those targeted, then it can be suggested that his actions may be classified as a HATE CRIME. Simmons at the least is guilty of a negligent tort. Simmons' actions were deliberate, retaliatory and geared solely to cause hatred and division in the community. Simmons did not target the so called "white-voters" only, African-Americans. So it could be concluded Simmons may be a racist. Walden has an outstanding civil court case against Simmons. It could be reasonable to assume if this document was not created, then, Mrs. Walden would not have been attacked. Simmons needs to prepare himself because he we probably will end up paying dearly for his negligence. Since Simmons represented the City of Temple by providing a city issued cell phone number on the document, then the City of Temple will also be held accountable because Simmons is a representative of the city. But that was the plan to begin with; the city attorney will represent Simmons' negligence and ignorance at TAXPAYERS's expense. What a world we live in. Simmons' response after being asked by media if he had any words for the Walden family cannot be described in words. This is a person representing this city, he could have at least lied and said something other than what he said. Simmons knows who attacked Mrs. Walden. Simmons demonstrated his true character in this election. We cannot pick and choose how to use the delicate issue of RACE when it suits us. Either you like them or you don't. Simmons quotes Walden as a racist with no witnesses but he chooses to associate with FORD when he was portrayed to be a racist by employees who are still working who have not been fired or are supposedly disgruntled. So it appears we have a case of selective political targeted racism another instance of FORD'S administration at its best.

I like many others in this town feel this election has gotten way out of hand. Temple has been turned into a three ring circus. I support Ford, Mann and Bivins because I personally know all of them and feel that they will do a better job then their opponents. I do not support her husband, but I do hope that Mrs. Walden recovers quickly. As we move forward in the last few days of this election I ask that people behave themselves in a way the would make our Heavenly Father proud, our parents proud and as good roll models to our children. Those are the positions that are most important, not an elected one.

Many times in my life I have been disappointed in elected leaders, those who operate our court systems and ones entrusted with enforcing our laws, yet never have I been so disgusted by someone in a position of power as I was while reading this article. I know Mrs. Walden personally. Regardless of her outspoken ways and her strong beliefs regarding politics, this woman is one of the purest souls you will ever meet. She has always fought the fight for the under dog. Many of her open records request were not even for herself, but for people to fearful to make them for themselves. If not for Mrs. Walden the residents of this city would still be paying a TWO dollar fee for a receipt from city hall if you paid a bill with cash or not getting a recipient at all. A city employee would still be owed money due to him in a raise that the "City" forgot to include on his check. The Mayor would never have reimbursed the city for the cost of his permits or the cost of removing his debris. It was Mrs. Walden who gave her support to James Bailey..I could go on and on, but there is no point in it. Mrs. Walden has been made to look like a villain by elected officials because she cares enough to call them out on their actions. Mrs. Walden did not refer to Mr. Simmons by the name he claimed she did. Mr. Simmons was in the middle of his campaign for re-election TWO years ago when he claims this incident occurred. It was used TWO years ago in order to rile up support. TWO years later Mr. Simmons has attempted to use it again during a campaign he is not even running in.

Now this woman has been brutally attacked. I would like for every female viewer of this column to imagine being on your KNEES, picking up something you had dropped, imagine seeing a man approach you and before you can stand you are KICKED in the face by the sole of a MANS BOOT. Imagine being alone, no one in ear shot of you, dragging yourself into your car after you gain conscientious and come to your senses and managing to drive yourself to a public place for help. This is what happened to Mrs. Walden. As horrid as her ordeal was, then imagine the only words your attacker spoke to you gave reference to an ELECTED OFFICIAL, using his family name "William Lee" and beating you for the racial slur you NEVER uttered. If that nightmare isn't enough, then put yourself in her place as a woman and imagine that same elected official going to the media and saying "You made it all up" That same elected official who is the chair person for your CITY POLICE DEPARTMENT!

Now men, imagine this happening to your wife.

This nightmare did happen to Howard Walden's wife, despite William Simmons best efforts to incite racial tensions in our City, Mr. Walden has refused to hold anyone other than the one responsible for his wife's beating accountable. I witnessed Mr. Walden's eyes filled with tears while caring for his wife. He had to stand there helpless while she bled, cried and begged someone to reach her teenage grand children to have them remove any campaign locos from their car due to fear they would be attacked. It was Howard Walden who calmed his wife and stood strong in the face of such an act brought on by ignorance and hatred after the false words of an elected official. Never once did he or his wife utter a racial slur. Even in the midst of an attack so evil and filled with racial issues the Waldens refused to allow it to build hatred within their own hearts. It renewed my faith and allowed me to know with out a doubt that Howard Walden had the integrity and the heart to serve the city of Temple well.

Mr. Simmons and his cold hearted remarks to the Times Georgian help to give the perfect example of the attitude and mind set that is practiced in our city government currently. I thank God for the people of Temple. While many of you may read this article and think only idiots reside in this city. I witnessed the out pouring of love and concern and Gods hand during Mrs. Walden's ordeal. My faith was renewed as I witnessed residents of all ages, people born and raised here, people who have moved here come by and check on her, call and ask what could be done to help them in any way. I saw first hand residents of all races express their concern over what happened to Mrs. Walden and offer to help in any way possible. The MANY people in town" that Mr. Simmons refers to above..they do not exist..the division he set out to cause will not occur because the residents of Temple will not allow it too. Race was not an issue in this RACE for public office until a public official made it so. I pray for the Walden's and I thank each and every resident of this city for showing me first hand God's love and grace in your care and concern over the Walden's. I pray God uses this incident for his glory and puts and end to the strife it was meant to bring about.

All of you involved in this mess (incumbents, those running for office, your family and friends)are an embarrassment to the city of Temple. You all have been bickering and acting like fools for years and the citizens of Temple are tired of it. You run your mouths about this and that but NOT ONE of you have ever done anything GOOD for our city. Now you have this all over the newspapers and tv stations, making the entire city look bad. Although I am sure you do not care how the things you are doing look, I am ashamed of and embarrassed by EVERYONE OF YOU. I will vote, as it is my right and my duty, but fear that it doesn't matter who is elected into office because all of you are the same type of person. You really don't have any intentions of serving to better our community, you only want power and drama. Temple was once a wonderful place to live. I now find myself hoping that the housing market rights itself, so that I can sell and get away from all of you, since I know you all aren't going anywhere.

The true sorry is the low-lifes of Temple are showing their true colors. No one should be called racial slurs - some people are enjoying saying that all black singers and rappers use the N word - but we are talking grown adults here - not children or teenagers. And we are talking about a grown woman (L Walden) who has had to be escorted OUT of city council meetings, has been screaming and hollering like an idiot at meetings for the past several years - people in Temple are SICK of her white trash red-neck ways! She should not have been attacked - if it really happened - but what does she really expect with all the RUDE and tacky behavior she has constantly shown over the years. At least Simmons has been willing to serve the town for years and years and been re-elected several times - you CANNOT say that for all these other red necks running around screaming. But - to vote for Walden or Jay Mann - that is a strange choice - at least Walden keeps his trailor park looking nice and does not seem mean - Jay Mann is doing this for no reason except to make money and steal money from the town just like his daddy LARRY MANN has done for years and years - the ONLY reason Larry is not running is fear - he FINALLY got caught up with and wants to slip into the shawdows - so enter his litte son Jay who is a total hot head, drunk, loves to pretend he is religious - and will stab you in the back in a second! So he makes Walden look ok.

And Ford - people are finally finding out - he and his drunk wife are total white trash - even in a big house - he is totally a bully and very very vendictive and if Jay Mann doesn't stab you in the back - Ford definitely will - I have seen Ford do this over and over. Lester Harmon is not perfect - but at least he can manage money and look long term at the city needs - Ford is living for the moment and stealing all that he can on a daily basis. These people running around bragging on Ford and his group are the same stupid people that wanted to uphold Charles Thomas after he cheated people and stole money for years and years - after he and his stuck up wife built their big lake house mansion over near Athens with the money he stole - at least he got caught and is locked up - of course he did not come forward and admit this - if took getting caught TWICE and finally having to turn himself in - or he would still be stealing from people. Many many people have suffered time and stress because of his illegal ways - - and now MAYOR FORD is going down the same road. Maybe Ford can share a jail cell with Charles Thomas - that is where Ford should be if all the truth was known!

Temple has been taken over by SORRY SORRY white trash (and I am white - not black) it is time we stopped this.

Please voters - do not put crooks like Ford and Mann in office. Take our city back and lets try to slowly recover from all the damage that has been done in the last couple of years!

I am sitting here reading this filth and I could cry! I have lived in Temple most of my life and my grandparents/great grandparents, too. This little town used to be a wonderful place to live. We had respectful, hard-working residents and well-behaved children. Now we have become a bunch of fighting, squabbling, immature haters. You all at City Gov't have made a mockery of our community. It breaks my heart. I wish all you "new-comers" would pack up your sick dispositions and get the heck out town. We want Temple back.

Wow, not only is slick will telling everyone that this was staged, but his buddy cousin larry is running around town doing the same. Mrs. Walden, I guess, just took "one for the team." Just like water boy did so long ago.Slick, you are an idiot to even think that this was staged. Why don't you go fall asleep at a council meeting or something. I am so tired of the race card being played by councilman Simmons, he is the most racial black man that I have ever met in my life. He is so unprofessional and ignorant he has created such chaos in this city! Please read the article in it's entirity that he is passing out in regards to the Waldens it CLEARLY states that he alleges the n word was said and everyone around was a witness and they all stated IT WAS NOT SAID. All of those witnesses were NOT Mr and Mrs Walden associates either!! He has left a big black eye here in Temple (more ways than one) and I'm happy to see that his true behaviors and feelings were shown on channel 2 and channel 5 This past Wednesday. I have been involved with the city enough to know that the current city officials are throwing stones while living in a glass house. I have never heard the N word from anyone in the city of Temple in a derogatory manner with the exception of Mr Simmons and Mayor Rick Ford. The mayor refers to a black ex employee Recreation director as the N word in sworn statements to state officials. Our current mayor is so condencending he bullies anyone he can. It sickens me he has ran a lot of Good people out because those good people won't do his dirty work. Just think for a minute the turn over since Rick Ford took office in our Police station, the Recreation Dept, water dept, city Ethics commitee and the Downtown Development Authority. When will this city stop being bullied and cohersed into believing lies. Lets stand up and show everyone that we are not falling for all these lies. WE are not stupid. PLease Please do some research and come up with your own decision as to who to vote for on Tuesday. Be sure to read all articles in their entirity. DO NOT go by word of mouth. I can honestly tell you that this racism is effecting our kids at school it has created some racial tensions and our children are a representation of who we are as parents. We all need to be united as one community and love and respect one another! With the choices that I have made I feel confident in Temples future. Please think long and hard and I'm sure you will find that Mr Harmon and Mr Walden are the postive change that we all deserve and need. I have nothing to gain by this posting with the exception of hopefully curing this ridiculous racism plague before it destroys all of us. With all this racial upset/tension it won't be long before our streets are filled with white robed Klan members and who will we thank for that. The only one that has pushed and pushed racial hatred here in our community Mr Simmons! Please do some soul searching, listen to the CD's and take the time to watch the DVD's because it's reality tv it's not hear say. Find the truth and vote! Our kids need us to protect their future and I want to be a proud Temple citizen whose city embraces diversity!

It is amazing how willie can drum up support by creating a letter capitalizing the n-word to create a mob mentality. Then willie stapled the newspaper article to the letter. The newspaper article states that willie DID NOT have any witnesses, the newspaper article also states that three witnesses collaborated Linda Waldens story. I am sure 98% of the people did not bother to read the article all the seen was the capitalizd n-word twice on the letter and automatically assumed it was true. willie is creating racial tension in the City of Temple. Why is it ok for willie to come into my neighborhood and call me a "Cracker"? Guarantee that won't happen again. Nice job by Temple's finest on brushing this case off. This is a HATE CRIME and it will be treated as if. Amazing how a black woman get beat up by a white man at a Morrow Cracker Barrel and the media is up in arms about it. Turn the tables and it is no big deal. Bottom line is willie is completely responsible for these actions and it is his ass that will pay when all is said and done. Maybe Rick Fraud will be the next to get his ass kicked since it is in a report that he call the ex rec director that he set up then fired the n-word. It is evident that the mayor and his cronies have something to hide why would these people stoop to such low levels create such lies and fight tooth and nail to be mayor for a mere $200 a month.
