Temple boys win on late free throws

Kendall Lawson hit a pair of free throws with 0.9 seconds left to lift the Temple High School boys basketball team to a 43-42 win against Sonoraville on Tuesday.

Lawson led the Tigers (2-1) with 17 points, and Jalen Sullivan added 11.

“I’m proud of the way we played together and stayed together as a team,” Tiger coach Steve Robinson said.

Robinson said he is hoping the win continues to help his team work hard and believe that it can succeed as the season wears on.

The Tigers play at Haralson County on Friday.

In other prep basketball action:

Mt. Zion girls basketball 48, Georgia School for the Deaf 15:
Jasmin Kierbow’s eight points and five assists led the Lady Eagles (5-0), who had 10 players score in a contest they led 38-5 at the half.

Mt. Zion returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Galloway.

Oak Mountain boys 73, Cameron Academy (East Point) 72: Seth Houston had 39 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Warriors (3-1, 1-0), and Matthew Gilleran added 27 points.

OMA faces Heritage on Saturday. The OMA boys will play again on Saturday when Heritage School comes in for a 5:30 p.m. tip-off.

Oak Mountain girls 66, Cameron Academy 35: Maggie McMichael led the Lady Warriors (4-3, 1-0) with 19 points, as Jessi Fuller and Sarah Young each added 12 points.

Haralson County girls 55, Bowdon 43: Seniors Ivory Smith (13 points, 9 rebounds) and Taylor McIntyre (10 points) led the Rebelettes (2-0), while Camry Morris had 16 points to lead the visiting Red Devilettes (0-1).

The HC girls play host to Temple on Friday.
