Syble B. Conner, 90, of Canton, Georgia, formerly of Villa Rica, died Sunday, January 31, 2010, in Altus Hospice Home in Atlanta. She was born in Villa Rica on January 14, 1920, the daughter of the late Isom Brown Burnett and the late Pearl Veleta Chatham Burnett.

She graduated from Villa Rica High School and little did she know that the young man, John W. Conner, that she was paired to march with for graduation would on May 3, 1941, become her “beloved husband” for the next 52 years. Syble lived her entire lifetime in the Douglas, Carroll and Paulding county area until five years ago when she moved to Canton to live with her daughter, Karen. She lived a life of devotion to her husband and children and was an excellent cook, a gifted seamstress and enjoyed gardening. She took time to laugh and play with her family with long walks through the pasture, fishing on long summer evenings, and a family favorite, trips to St. Simon’s Island. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and although she had been raised in the Methodist Church, she had been a member of the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church for more than forty years, taught a Sunday School class and worked with the Vacation Bible School. She created an unbreakable bond of love and devotion to a family that depended on her including children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John W. (J.W.) Conner on April 18, 1994; three sisters, Edith Davis, Frances Gardner and Myrtle Ayers; one brother, Perry Burnett; and a son-in-law, Boyd Fraser on November 11, 2009.

Survivors include five daughters, Janice Fraser of Villa Rica, Veleta Gilland her husband, Neal of Villa Rica, Mary Sprayberry of Villa Rica, Karen Odom and her husband, Howard of Canton, Beth Kilgore and her husband, Richard of Dallas; one son, John William (Bill) Conner Jr. of Dallas; one sister, Nelta Barnes and her husband, Garland of Dallas; a sister-in-law, Jo Allgood and her husband, Harry of Lithia Springs; 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday morning, February 3, 2010, at 11 a.m. from the chapel of the J. Hoyt Thomas Funeral Home with the Rev. Sydney Odom officiating. Music will be provided by Charles Cole and Betty Tumlin. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Brian Odom, Kyle Fraser, Keith Fraser, Scott Hembree, Jason Hembree, Justin Gilland, Seth Gilland, Mark Gilland and Conner Kilgore. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Villa Rica.

The family requests that those desiring to do so make a memorial contribution to Altus Hospice Home, 1 Dunwoody Park, Suite 128, Atlanta, GA 30338 or American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312.
